| bmuzz1's 1/6 willys
I recently had the opportunity to purchase one of these killer 1/6 willys jeeps from FROADER. Here's his build FROADER's '42 Ford GPW I got it as a body and roll cage only a few days ago and have been working on it everyday since. First on the agenda was to change the body color to something more like my old '65 willys so I sprayed the body with some Krylon Fusion Burgundy. The interior and undercarriage were painted with some black textured patio paint for the Rhino Liner look and The frame rails got some Semi Flat black . The seats and other little accessories got Flat Black. After the paint was done it was time to move on to the drive train. The willys is getting Axial axles with Axial 2.2 wheels and custom bead lock rings from MTHead, those will be wrapped in some pro-line TSL's as soon as they arrive. I also took an idea I saw BOWTIE do on his 1.9 Axial bead locks and drilled the lugs on the wheels and installed Cap head screws. I was going to use an Axial tranny for my T case but was lucky enough to find a great deal on a Killer T case so that has gone in in place of the tranny T case which should give me a bit more wheel speed. I also spent a few minutes earlier making a cooling fan that will attach in front of the spur gear, it should look pretty cool through the grill. I also decided to obscure what is behind the grill some by adding some wire mesh. Next on the list is to get the Cage over to MTHeads to sand blast it and do a little touch up brazing on some loose bars before it gets a fresh coat of paint and reinstalled Then it's on to the electrics which should take a bit longer since funds are dangerously low at this point. |

Thanks James! We'll have to plan a run up your way when this pig is finished. I didn't get a lot done today with Christmas shopping with the Wife and then running around tonight to try and find my youngest a new princess stocking. I was able to get the micro servo installed for the steering wheel and also shimmed the rear of the tranny so the fan would sit better in the grill, that's about it. | ||||

It's a real small update but a update non the less. I shimmed the tranny so that it sat level in the motor compartment and trimmed a bit more of the plastic radiator area on the jeep so the fan would be more visible. BEFORE: AFTER: I also worked on the steering link for the steering wheel and installed the servo. Then I finished making my temperary drive shafts and hooked them up for testing when the electrics get here from RPP. UPDATE: UPS just dropped off my 2.2 TSL's so I'll be posting pics soon! Alright, pic of tires somewhat mounted up for a visual, I still need to get my new outer rings from MTHead. I think they look pretty damn good if I do say so myself, but they will be needing some wideners so they aren't rubbing on the front shocks. I also took the pic outside so that the true color of the body shows. Had to get a flex shot in there. |
