Default 1/5 Maxstone Crawler w/ weed eater attachment???

Gentlemen,

I have sloped hills to mow in my neighborhood's common areas. It takes about 30 mins or so to weed eat but I'm standing on a slope and it's a bit precarious. I want an RC solution so my neighborhood buddies and I can sit around having some drinks and taking turns using the RC mower.

Basically, copying this gentleman's design but not using the RC batteries to power the weed eater. I would basically mount a cordless weed eater with its own battery in the same design as this guy's.

R/C Lawn Mower/Weedeater

I looked into wheelchair motors to push around a regular push mower. Total cost was about $800 for everything needed for an RC lawn mower. This is too much $$ for me and it's a death trap if it loses signal or tips over.

So, I'm interested in purchasing the 1/5 Maxstone Crawler for $280~ and attaching a 20v DeWalt weed eater to it. Mind you, I would not use the weed eater shaft. I would place the 13" diameter trimmer head between the crawler's wheels (which are 14-15" apart by default) and the battery/trigger system on top of the crawler. I would obviously have to build custom mounts for the weed eater.

The measurements between the string and the tires look good on paper (I can always increase the wheelbase with the chassis extensions) and I believe the crawler can carry the weight of a cordless weed eater.

Am I stupid for thinking this will work and be entertaining? What are the downsides to this?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for this website.

seems kinda silly to me...
and work is never really that entertaining.
at least for me. Lol

Maybe you should just invest into a self propelled Snapper
and control the throttle/drive wheels independently like the Blizzard
or a tank ?

Screw that platic string anyways...
got replenish it way too often.

Instead...

a solid steel blade wacking chit up is more volitile and destructive

wow instead of buying a used lawn mower to mow weeds

Do you think the max stone 1/5 crawler will carry the 10lb of weight?

i have a maxstone 5 i think it will cary the wait if you limit the articulation on it it dose great in tall grass and in fields and the shocks are so stiff a kid could ride on it not realy but there stiff i think your only problem would be way to much articulation i picture the weedeater head eating dirt but when they run over tall grass they bend the grass over so it wouldent get much of the grass i made a small drag and i run it over the same spot againnand again till the grass is flat and i can run my short coarse truck or my wraith in the path ive been draging with my max stone and my juggbuster the grass dosent get caught up in the wheels like the other rigs i was reading a article where there using the maxstone 5 platform to make resurch drone prototypes from there carrying all kinds of stuff no pics or vids of them running though build it if nothing else it will be a fun build and if it dosent work out you could always sell the maxstone junk lol

Thank you, sir. Sounds like it is the right fit. It sounds like my only concern would be to span the wheels further apart using one of the $20~ chassis extension kits. That would allow the grass to recover before hitting the weed eater head. We don't let the grass get above 4" usually. I'll order the maxstone and the dewalt weed eater. I'll take the weed eater apart and attach the moving pieces to the maxstone. I'll post some pics/videos when I get it done.
