I have done it. It's hard to get nice coverage on the frame underside. I have one of those Harbor Freight powder coaters. It poofs the stuff out in a mess. I have great sucess with flat plates and other parts. I bought one of those countertop toaster ovens and it works well. I heat it up to 400-450 for about 15-20 minutes. The coating is hard as a rock. It's just difficult to get even coverage on a frame.

well i have the hook up with a local shop that does bike parts and were willing to give it a try. they have a professional set up so coverage shouldnt be an issue. they are use to doing small stuff like spokes. i would hate myself if it feel apart in the oven though. lol. good to know the harbor frieght one is kinda junk though i was thinking about getting one. o and great idea with using a toaster oven for small parts thats perfect! what kind of solder do u use?

I dont get into the brass much. I do coat hangers with metal filler and oxy/map gas. I still don't think you need to worry about 400 degrees. just to get the solder to flow it takes 2-3 times that temp.

If you want to do a good paint job, paint it in Rusoleum and then stick it in the oven at medium heat for an hour or so. The baking helps cure the paint. It's super cheap and works almost as well as powdercoating. Just be careful you don't heat it too much to melt the paint and/or the brass.

FYI this is a good tip for those who do not have access to powdercoat.

I used rustolium on most of my brassworks. it looks similar, is easier to work with and lasts. but mostly i use it because it's cheap and easy.
