Default Why not use steel pipe

Question about the beedlocks? Why not use metal pipes for the section as it would also add wheel weights??????? This to me seams to kill two birds one stone.

Default I think I answer my own question.

Well I just got back from Lowes and the only thing could find that fit the bill on this lock system was pvc. No steel. I cut some of these but I would say getting the bead to set is critical when it comes to cutting the pvc just right.

So do the stock tires fit in the bead locks? I want to do the mod and then get some new tires later when i have the money.

Is there a difference between "regular tires" and ones that are for bead lock wheels?

Im new at this game and require your help.
I was wondering what size of brake line you used, i am having trouble finding a line that I can thread the 3mm rod in to. or are you running the hole threaded rod though the brake line and beding them both.
And at what length do you have the line cut to.

I got my mrc use and the man I got it from got some mud slinger tires but he used some kind of glue, so i have to take my time getting the tires off and then getting the glue off the rim is going to be a fun job. I am tring the beed locks this week. The pictures are a big help.

Thanks

Why do we need to put a screw between the PVC and the wheels? There is nothing sitting between on the Pro Roller wheels.

You don't need a screw there, he is just showing the gap where the bead sits

Oh, thank you.

So this is just a homemade version of the Pro Roller wheels, cool. ;)

I was directed here by the sticky.

Thank you so much for writing this up. Good starter mods for me to work on.

i just did this mod last night, mounting a set of red dot rovers. 19/32 is the width that worked for me. (2 inch white PVC from lowes, perfect diameter) any wider and i couldnt get the lip of the bead to tuck into the space between the wheel and PVC also i dont recommend this mod if youve had the wheel screws out and back in before. they strip easily and wont clamp the bead ring down to the wheel. therefore i was only able to get 2 of 4 wheels modded. as for removing the original tire baking didnt work, just deformed the tire an didnt soften the glue. massaging the bead away from the wheel seemed to work, with a little bit of cutting.

When I did mine, (that was two years ago now,) I think I cut the inserts at 3/4 inch. I had to sand down the two centre ridges on the rim to get a snug fit on the rims. When I sanded the inserts smooth, taking off the rough edges that would cut the tires, I also sanded (bevelled) the inside edges a little more, about 45*, half way out the thickness of the insert, to leave space for the tire bead to squish into. I've only had to reseat them a couple times since. And yeah, be careful torquing down the screws.

When doing this mod, how wide do the PVC inserts need to be cut to fit inside the wheel?

I must've missed that. Cut one last night at 7/8 and yup....it's too wide. Bought a 2 foot stick at Home Depot for about $4, so I still have plenty of material.
