| What batts are you all using?
What up folks. About to pull the trigger on this thing VERY VERY soon... just have to make a plan to sneak the purchase past the wifey! Going to be placing on order via HK or Hobbypartz and I'll probably throw in a few batts for the Rock Rey. 3S no doubt. Where did you get them? Keep the EC3 plug? |

I'm using the EC3 myself as I have it in my helis. Love the quick connector; once you're used to it you can change lipos in less than half the time of a Yeti or Bomber or SCX10. I'm using 5000 2S 60C Turnigy hard packs and 5000 2S Gens Ace 60C packs. The Turnigy price was 1/3 of the price of the Gens Ace and their IR is lower. Power and punch is the same. I've also used some of our 3300 3S Yeti packs too. The truck goes pretty fast on 3S. For trailing and rough stuff, 2S is plenty as it's exactly as fast as a 3S Yeti. On 3S it's like a Yeti on 4.5S so long term you're likely going to get much more wear and tear like some of the BR guys are getting and may want to think about the billet bits for the rear axle...and hopefully the front bulkhead if/when it comes out. |

Have you gotten your rock rey and batteries yet? Im curious what your thoughts are; I swapped to deans(the reviews on youtube and here aren't kidding, there seem to be a million screws holding the roll cage together) and have been running a Duratrax 5000 mah 3s pack. The runtime is pretty respectable at about 25 minutes or so of runtime, but I almost feel like 3s is a bit much. Once I can get a high enough c rated 2s pack, I am going to try it out. Has anyone tried both in theirs?

You would need a 7500ma 2S pack to be similar to your 3S one and they can expensive over 5000ma. I've run 3S plenty of times but don't need the crazy speed. My 60C 5000 packs were $28AUD each so probably about $20USD. They do not get warm let alone hot. Their current IR per cell is about 2.5. Loads of power and they are also hard packs. Just buy a few. I have done MANY batteries worth of drag racing and standing start stuff against a 3S Yeti and they stay cool. I personally have found my RR is well powered on 2S and difficult enough to launch on loose dirt. It's a handful already up to high speeds even with a centre locker (which is loads better) but has been totally reliable on 2S. I don't think I'd trade reliability for the extra crazy of regular 3S usage especially when the thing already is a handful and plenty of fun. |

I'm running this one: True Spec Premium 11.1V 7200mAh 131 Amps/90C it fits absolutely perfect, with no room to spare. Since I bought it specifically for my BR, I clipped the wires a bit shorter leaving just enough slack to plug it in, and soldered on an EC3 plug. That 10g wire is a bit big for an EC3, but it can fit.

+on the SMC batteries. For the RR I run their 2S 7200mAh packs for trailing. I also have their 3S 4300mAh packs. Both fit nicely into the RR and my other rigs. SMC has great pricing and quick shipping. Was referenced 2 years ago to them by some old 1/8-1/10 racers. |

Quick update, I purchased these off of eBay - PowerHobby 2S 7.4V 5200mAh 50C They fit perfect and give me a good 35-40 mph. More than enough for a good bash sesh. Also, runtime is around 20-24 mins. This includes some long speed runs, jumping, grass and light crawling. Not too shabby. 3s may be a bit much for the motor. Sooner or later I'll throw in a sensored setup and go 3s. All told I would recommend these batts. |

I've been running Helios RC 3s 5200mAh 50c packs since he released these for the Yeti XL. They fit the battery compartment perfectly and have a huge punch to them. I paired it with the MMX and HH 540XL 3500kv combo. It's been my go to lipo for all of my 3s-6s go fast rigs and at $48 each (2 or more) I'm good with the price. I also run Deans on most of my rigs.

Hello- Getting into the nitty-gritty of my 1st build with my kid and its time to start looking at batteries. I am considering the Gens Ace 5000mah 2S just like Betty and 84Yoda mentioned but they seem to come in 2 hard pack versions. One has all the cables coming from a corner of the pack and the other has 2 bullet type plugs that plug into 2 corner holes on the top of the battery. Will both of these fit the Rock Rey? Is one preferred over the other? Thanks. | |

SMC 4300mah 3S. Geared down with a 2400kv motor and upped the voltage to see what run times I get.

My wife ordered me a Rock Rey for my birthday today, but I seen a person talking about alot of Lipos not fitting. I only plan to run 2s for now, besides all I have is Gensace 2s Lipos,3 Traxxas 5800mah 25c 2s Lipos, and 4 Tower Hobbies 5000mah 30c 2s Lipos that I got for under $100. Will any of these fit the Rock Rey? I know I'll have to get EC3 connectors, but I'm worried about them not fitting and the door not closing. Any info will be highly appreciated.

I run Ovonic- www.ampow.com. I've been very happy with them. I run the 2200 3s packs. Obviously you want a bit more MAH , but I run the 2200 packs for 2 hours at a time and the voltages are typically no lower than 3.77 a cell when I swap.
