I run a sidewinder v3 on a light SMT-10, with clod sized tires 3s, 5700kv 12/57, on under drive gears. Its maxed out, after 5000mah both motor and ESC are at 185-190f... I really like the SV3. cheap light and reliable.

Ive found the key is to keep them light.

The SV3 SUCKS! I don't care what anybody says.

I have an SMT10 with the RC Gear Shop 3900kV motor and the RC Gear Shop 80A sensorless ESC (rebranded HobbyWing). I then have the Castle SV3 and Castle 3800kV motor in my Deadbolt monster truck. Both systems are sensorless. The Castle cogs so much worse and has a lot less power.

Go with the 80A HobbyWing ESC. It's only $55 here and it's exactly what I run: https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/prod...iant=214141370

Be prepared to upgrade the trans to metal gears when you go brushless.

Just tried my sons sidewinder 3 in it and it cogs really bad with my rc gear shop 3900kv on 3 cells so it looks like I will be going with the hobby wing esc.

Jato, I'll have to agree to disagree.... I don't think the SV3 is Ideal for an SMT by any means, however, on my sons truck I threw in a system I had laying around, and was blown away at the performance.... This is a video on a 3 cell Venom 5000 pack with a weak cell.... punch is set to 60%. I got 15 mins of playing on the pack, ESC was 162, motor was 158... I also gotta add that out of my 3 SMT's all brushless 2 with 3500xl's/ MMX's on 4 cell packs, I have yet to break a single spider gear... I have gone through about 7 servo cases however.

For the record I purchased the Castle SV3 w/Sensored 5700kv combo's in my Clod for $88 (motor and ESC) a peice at my LHS.

and here is the clod on SV3's... No BS, in the video maximum throttle achieved is maybe 60%.

Your video proves my case. The cogging is horrible at startup and slow speeds.

Of course a 5700kV motor is going to be fast!

5700kv 3s 1/10 scale system designed for a 2wd buggy in a monster truck, and you still take the stance that the SV3 sucks/ "coggy" Haha Classic!

4 pole motors are not designed for buggies.

Any 540 sized 4 pole motor will pull an SMT10. Even the garbage brushed motor moves it.

While I accept you know everything.... The motor in the SMT in the video is a 2 pole motor .... as described in the video, it is the older 5700kv motor...

this is a copy of the application guide from castle's site: Also the link... the motor in my SMT is even older then the one on the site... It is a CM36s Sidewinder 3 Sport 1:10th Combo with Neu-Castle 1406-5700kv

For 2WD short course trucks on 2s LiPo and geared conservatively.
1/10th 2WD Stadium trucks and buggies on 2s for bashing and limited runs on 3s with conservative gearing.
Great for 1/10th scale on-road cars for 2s and 3s use.
NOT for use in 4WD short course trucks.

I'd love to see a video of your trucks startup, just to educate myself... I have a rebranded hobbywing dynamite stuff in my baja rey with a 550 3800kv 4 pole and even with the timing turned to zero, it is leaps and bounds more coggy then my SMT on 5700kv. That is geared as low as the truck will allow

Oh if it's 2 poles I stand corrected. I never claim to know everything, but OK if you think so.

I will take a video comparing my Castle system to my HobbyWing system. They're not even close in terms of smoothness. Gearing can affect startup smoothness BTW. The more a motor struggles the more it's going to cog.

It's all good my man, I just hate seeing someone post something SUCKS! When I have first hand experience with said product performing more then satisfactory many times over... You will never see me bad mouth any product.

Again, When setup correctly I think a SV3 combo is hard to beat.

I have more then enough first hand experience with no less then 100 different brushless combo's. I understand them well. Maybe why my 1/10 scale 2wd Buggy system, lives on 3s in an oversized tire Monster truck application, with Minimum "cog" awesome battery life, and limited heat.

I just put the Mamba X with the 2850kv slate sensored setup in mine and I love it. I was trying to decide between that and the Holmes hobby Trail master.

I installed the HPI esc on 3cells I blew out the idler gear. So I ordered a set of all metal gears for the tranny. And a aluminum tranny case. I was wanting to know if it would be faster. With my 2cell with the 16 tooth pinion or with my 3cell with the 11 tooth pinion ?
