I am looking to purchase a micro crawler just to play around with as the weather gets colder. I don't want junk. I want something that has replacement parts available. What is the best value out there? |

Proline just released a scale micro crawler. Or find something here: http://lynxmicrotech.com/parts/ #CamBrady2017 |

Be aware that the Trekker is discontinued by Losi. But it may be years before parts dry up, though. #CamBrady2017 |

I am slightly hesitant of the Pro Line because it is so new. I was hoping to read more on it here... |

I'd buy a Losi Trekker or Micro Rock Crawler (or 2) and stock up on the important spare parts. Lotsa folks like the Sumo Micro w/ 4 wheel steer.

The Trekker is a proven platform and I really don't understand why it was discontinued. RC4WD has one out, too. A micro Defender. But I would stay away unless you like to tinker a lot. Neat rig, though. Check Banggood.com or other Chinese vendors for a 1/35 Orlandoo. Look around in this forum at those if you can go even smaller in scale. They're releasing a slightly bigger and more capable version now, or soon. The Redcat Racing has a small scale that competes with the Trekker. A Sumo it's called. It's geared different. Thunder Tiger has a 1/14 scale out now, also. I'd look at that one hard if I were in the market. But it's a totally new release. ECX has a small crawler. The Temper, I think it's called. Check any local hobby shops for discounted Trekkers. Mine sold them for 25% when they got discontinued. Had they dropped any lower I would have gotten a couple of them. He had a few of them up until last month. #CamBrady2017 |

The micro thing has been a love/hate for me for awhile now. Nobody has taken micro scale crawlers serious enough to build a nice unit out of the box that doesn't require an additional $100-200 to make it decent and I feel that is completely unacceptable. Its nice having somethin in the house when its -20F outside for sure. I love the detail Kyosho puts into their Mini-z series and wish they made some scale crawlers. They have some AWD SUVs but nothing very offroadish.

Your best bet is the Trekker. It is expensive for a reason, because it is good quality. There are also plenty of parts available online (stock and aluminum upgrades), as well as motor, wheel, tire, wideners, etc upgrades. I have owned two and am not disappointed. I know it will outperform the proline out of the box just based on their suspension articulation. The proline is very stiff out of the box with limited travel as it is a leaf spring design, while the Trekker is not. Just my .02 cent. |

After a bit of reading, it seems the Losi may be the way to go... It sounds like it takes quite a bit to get the RC4WD up to par... I can't find whether the redcat sumo, hsp, or Ecx temper come stock with bearings or if bearings are even obtainable. And, it also seems like it takes some cash and work to get these up to the same level as the losi. I really like the idea of the ambush, but again, I want to steer away from a new product with little info or aftermarket parts available... Last edited by gokartjon; 09-17-2016 at 09:53 AM. |

Upgrading any of them is a must in my book, but out of the box the Losi is best and sturdiest, in my opinion, and like i said before, it has the most aftermarket parts available of all the micros... you wont be disappointed
