Thanks guys! Adam glad to see you on here. I have only a little left to do, but it will take some time to mask off everything to paint the exterior. yay \o/ I'm looking forward to driving this thing. |

That is looking great, Jim! The engine and interior detail are fantastic!! Thanks for hooking me (and us all) up with your micro parts. I can't wait to start my new build. Still undecided as to what and how I'm going to proceed.... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Thanks everyone I'm having fun with it. I decided to do the exterior before finishing the roll cage. It wasn't easy but I got it masked. There may be some touchup required. I hope it's not too bad. Once it was masked I painted it red oxide primer. I should have used the airbrush, but I used rattle can instead. We'll see. After that dried and cured two days I added some lighter and darker areas using a wash of flat brown, red, and yellow in several layers using a natural sponge. It is now ready for hairspray and salt. Also time to nail down the color... gulp... Thanks for watching. |

I made some progress on the paint. It didn't go perfectly, but I have something to work with, and I think it will be ok. The green will not be so neon after the clear coat. Will look more the color of the 64 Chevy I did. There are several other effects that will be layered over this. I had zero overspray inside the cab, so the masking went well, but my airbrush was giving me fits. lol Last edited by Fungi; 03-17-2017 at 04:08 PM. |

The paint effect wasn't my best work. The problems were I applied a too uniform application of salt, and a too uniform application of green paint. The olive green tone was normal and applying clear over it darkens it too normal. Not sure if it's the hairspray or salt that causes it. So to fix it I first re-masked it quickly, and applied more green with the airbrush, now working great, and painted in the areas that would not be as rusty. I then sealed it all with a light mat clear. When that was dry I used the same sponge and diluted paint effect, and applied a darker, and then a lighter brown application in the rusty areas. Still not done, but looking a lot better. Thanks for watching. |

A little more progress to report. I'm experimenting with roll cage ideas. I'm using 0.093" tubing. I also created some parts, a crawler front bumper and a tow bar capable rear bumper (upside down) available on shapeways. |

I like the new bumper! It'll make a nice addition to your frames. Speaking of, I'll be placing an order with you soon.

Sounds good Rob. I received the bumpers from shapeways. Remember to clear out the excess powder in the screw holes. I must have measured something right because they fit perfectly. |

Sun came out so I snapped a few pictures. If you are lucky enough to have some of MGCrawlers smaller tires, I posted these nifty rims to my Shapeways shop so anyone can buy them. They're not as expensive as you might imagine. I hit these with three coats of red primer. I think they turned out pretty nice. Thanks for watching my madness... |

The 3d printed texture on the bumper makes for a great scale powder coat finish
