ECX 1/24 barrage ghetto fab

Digging up my graveyard build, I have stolen lots of parts off this in the mean time so here it is now.



Swapped the metal shafts out to a plastic shaft because I put the metal ones on a different micro.

RC4WD v2 trans and motor were taken out.

Proline ambush stock tires installed.

I had a random transmisson lying around and I thought I might as well use it. I think its out of a 1/24 EXC Temper but not totally sure.



To make this transmission bolt to the skid plate I have to file down this raised hole on the right side of the stock skid.



This picture shows the part filed down.



Whatever this came out of the motor plate looks like it was for a 030 motor and since I will be using the 050 barrage one I had to drill some extra holes. The holes that are slotted and tapered are old ones that won't work anymore.



The trans is slightly off center because the spur gear would of hit the servo wires going into the esc. Here's a quick shot.



Driveshaft angles are trash now



It finally moved on its own power! It's slower than the stock setup but faster than the rc4wd trans v2 setup also. I think it was a good compromise. That v2 trans I felt it always wanted to bind up a lot so this is an improvement on that.

To fix that driveshaft angle I have some temper axles with high pinion diffs so that should fix it if I can get them mounted good.

All my other micro crawlers were sold so I got a good parts stash to dig into. Ill work on mounting those other axles and do an update if I can get anything done on it.

Got the rear axle swapped in with minor mods, I'm fairly sure its a temper axle as the axle shaft ends are tiny compared to the barrage so I had to find smaller nuts for the wheels.

Here's a shot with just the shocks and lower links mounted. Since I moved the links over on the skidplate I need to get a nut inbetween the gap where they used to be to keep them from flexing the mount too much.



Put in the original body posts to lower the body lift since I'm fairly sure it lifted the back.



Here's the upper links installed, good thing I had the servo mount to screw in to!

Now I undid the front driveshaft so its RWD only to test the gearing out....

The axles must of been a lower ratio since this thing defiantly slowed down some. Weird thing is it still feels like it has lot's of top end to. This is easily the smoothest power I have felt in a micro! There's no lurging forward like when the truck has no torque, its smooth power the whole way with the trigger!!!!

Ok started on the front end now.

Pretty much did the exact same thing as the rear, threw some nuts on the link mounts to keep them from bending in. Shot with just the links in.



Put the shock in the same spot as rear, it hits the knuckle just before full turn.



Low quality picture but this shows I filed down the knuckle just enough to turn.

Overall pretty happy with it now. Reused all existing links and just used new axles. I do need some longer driveshafts now which is unfortunate but whatever. I would like to fix this bump steer on the front axle but not to sure how to yet

Well back already

I decided the only way to fix the bump steer is move the servo to axle mounted. Don't really care since this is far from a scale rig and having no bump steer is more important.

Easiest way to do this with minor mods is with very sticky servo tape. I wish I could of used screws but it would of been way more work because how narrow the space between the frame rails are.

Here's a shot of the chassis servo mount removed and servo taped onto the axle.



I used the same servo arm and linkage since there was no need for new stuff. Now the servo ears were hitting the frame when flexing so I just cut them off, somehow the HS-65MG sticker came off with it



Already had holes in the frame upfront from the bumper so I put the chassis servo mount/crossmember in front to keep the frame nice and sturdy.



Now there was nothing to screw part of the shock mount into so I swapped screws for a small self tapper just bigger than the original screw to hold one side of the shock mount in place.



Now I can flex fully without hitting the servo and have no bump steer!!!



The servo tape should hold fine for a small servo. I wouldn't try this on my 1/10 scale servos with 300 oz of torque

My LHS doesn't carry micro stuff so I will have to order in the driveshafts unfortunately. Shouldn't be long and ill be ripping around in the house!
