Default MNRCRC Scale Event #4 Byron Sept 20th

Figured I'd start a thread to get the word out on this event.

Date:
Saturday Sept 20th, 11:00 start

Events:
1.9 and 2.2 G6 Courses
1.9 and 2.2 U4RC Races (hopefully no rain this time)

Rigs:
1.9 and 2.2 Scale rigs for official times and places. Don't let that stop you from coming out. As long as your rig is at least 4wd and can climb rocks. Axial, exceed, vaterra, heck even traxxas. All are welcome.

Location:
Byron, MN (PM me, mnmudder, or semnrc for directions)
It's about a 2 hour drive from the cities. Absolutely worth the trip. This is a 1:1 ORV park that is just plain awesome. Highly recommend carpooling. The location is on private land. It's a true privilege that we get to enjoy it.

Rules:
Basics for the g6. 1.9 or 2.2 wheel rig. Winch, scale tow strap, or both (attached to the rig or contained on the rig). Penalties are 1 min added to your time for each infraction. Penalties include your rig touching a gate marker or using your tow strap by hand to roll your rig over or get up over a difficult obstacle (no penalty if another driver pulls you with their rig or you use a winch). There may be some bonus gates to actually subtract time from your total. Bring a watch with a timer or your phone. The penalties are all on the honor system.

For the U4 race, 1.9 or 2.2 wheeled rigs. That's about it.

Waterproofing is recommended but may not be necessary.

Open Items:
It's going to be a long day, do we want to grill out again, or just have every one fend for themselves?

Let's get the word out. The more the merrier.

Dana

Sounds awesome. I've been meaning to get to some events here in MN. I just got a rig running and now I'm starting a new job so I don't think I'll be able to make it. Cool to know there is some U4 here because I'm making a U4 rig.

I have a question - I just bought a basically stock SCX10 Honcho - by your G6 rules can I still compete without a winch, tow hooks, and the like. I'm planning on getting all that but for money reasons it can't happen this month. I have never come to one of these competitions before so I have no idea how they operate - that's why I'm asking

THANKS!

Hey man, the stock scx10 is perfect for the 1.9 class. You don't need a winch, just a tow strap. Tow straps can be made from a shoe lace or some nylon rope or whatever. We've actually found through the past 3 events that the 1:00 penalty for tow strap and using a winch with no penalty use a similar amount of time. A lot of it depends on how good you are with your winch. So if you just use a tow strap you will be right along with a bunch of other folks doing the same.

I am looking forward to attending this event. It will be my first "Scale" gathering. Any tips for a noob will be appreciated, I found a thread about making the Tow Rope from a shoe lace. It's going to be a fun learning experience.

Hopefully we don't have as much trouble getting to the courses. Last time it was a workout!

I think Bill did an awesome job on the grill last time. Is there a possibility of taking the grill up to the courses and lunching there between the 2.2 and 1.9, or between the G6 and the U4? Bill, LMK what to bring (if this plan works for everyone). You have my number, right?

Last time was the most fun I've had with my trucks since...well, since I bought them. I wouldn't miss this race for all the tea in China. Really, I HATE tea!!

We got a idea for a fun skill challenge to add to the g6. At the start line, you will have to bump a inflatable ball up to a set of gate markers. The next set of drivers would then retrieve the balls for their start.

My neighbors kids left a couple inflatable balls in my back yard, so we started kicking them around with our yeti's. It was fun, and any rig could do it. Does everyone like the idea of trying this skill challenge?

Maybe not right in the beginning but say half way threw the course? But then there is no easy way to reset the obstical without having someone doing it.

Yeah, the thinking with having it at the start, is we would only need 3 balls. If it was in the middle of the course, we would either need more balls, or have a stop time if you need to wait for another group to finish the challange ahead of you.

And if it was in the middle of the course, my thought was to have a loop, so you would be running the ball back to the starting area.

Challenge idea is cool. This ball pushing as the challenge is a ? Maybe you can demo before the start and everyone nods in agreement.
