Default ~~ MNRCRC 2016 Comp #1- Apr 17th - Taylors Falls ~~

MNRCRC 2016 Comp #1
Date: April 17th
Location: @ Interstate state park in Taylors Falls
Time: Set-up begins approx. 9am and the comp starts around 10ish

We plan on starting at 10 for 1.9 Trail so be sure to leave plenty early.

Classes will be run in this order. In order to keep things moving, when each class starts, set your rigs at the starting gate in a line, so we know who will be running 2nd, 3rd, etc.

Here is the starting order for each class. #1 runs first on course 1. #2 runs first on course 2. #3 listed in case someone can't make it.

Picked order based on last years top finishers

NOTE the change that we start with 1.9 trail, this is a change from last year!!

1.9 Trail
1. Greg
2. Dana

2.2 Trail
1. Greg
2. Dana

2.2 Pro
1. Barry
2. Dana

As always, helping with course setup or cleanup is appreciated.

The results from last week can be found here.

Detailed local rules for the rigs can be found here

No rig will be turned away. The number 1 goal is to have fun. If possible we'll help you get your class into "the rules" but we want anyone to come out and have a good time playing with their "toys"
(NOTE: a Summit or Yeti XL might struggle fitting through 16" gates, but it'd be fun to see it try)

1.9 Trail Class
Get your SCX10 or TF2 ready. Any rig with a 1.9 (or smaller) scale tire is welcome. Bumpers and scale tires required

2.2 Trail Class
New this year is a dedicated 2.2 trail class. That's right, got a 2.2 wraith, deadbolt, or scx10? We finally have a class for you!!!!
Make sure you have some scale tires. Don't be using cheater tires...

2.2 Pro
And, as always, we will have the 2.2pro class. Anyone not familiar with the rules of this class or the rules in general can check out this link HERE.
Pro rigs include any MOA or sportsman rig (including dig) on a comp chassis with comp tires.

SCORING
Because as we have been doing in the past, and it has been working out very well, we will share the judging duty's.
1st--- you will time and call out penalty's for the person before you. This will give you an opportunity to see the course before you run.
2nd--- you run the course.
3rd--- you will score for the person behind you. I would encourage anyone not comfortable with the rules to ask for help! I would also like to see everyone take the judges test HERE.

Fees:
-MN State Park parking permits are required, but are available at the park for either a daily pass for $5 or a year pass for $25 (good at any MN state park). Season passes can be purchased ahead at places like REI
-Also there is a club fee of $5 per comp or $30 for the series. Females and young kids run for free. Ask for Kevin (nicklepimp)

Directions: (map)

NOTE: Road construction on HWY 8. Road closed. Alternative is to go north just past Lindstrom but well before the road closure. This route seems to work well click here

From the South: Take I-35 north. Take the Taylors Falls Exit, Hwy 8 East. Follow 8 approximately 22 miles. The entrance to the park office is located on the right hand side of the road at the only stop light in Taylors Falls. Stay to the right as you enter the parking lot.

From the North: Take I-35 south. Take the North Branch Exit, Hwy 95 East. Drive approximately 22 miles, passing through downtown Taylors Falls. At the stop light (intersecting hwy 8 ) continue straight. Stay to the right as you enter the parking lot.

From the East: Take Hwy 8 west into Minnesota. After crossing the St Croix River, turn left at the first stop light. Stay to the right as you enter the parking lot. Apparently no issues with this route due to construction

If there are some new people that haven't been to an event yet, just look for all the middle aged kids playing with toy trucks!

I would love to attend since I have yet to compete since I'm new to the whole hobby, but have some questions on what class I would fit into. I have a set of modded 1.9 trepadors on my scx10 and they are my only set of 1.9's. Would I need to get a new (un-modified) set of 1.9's to compete in the 1.9 class?

Cut tires are allowed

I should be ready... I ordered some servo Y power splitters from Holmes. Hoping that will fix my power cutouts under load when turning.

I swapped my 1.9 onto Nerbys carbon chassis, and welded up a front bumper for it. My other rigs have not been touched. Maybe I will rebuild some shocks?

Greg, Brawley and myself are on track to be there. Brawley got in 4 1/2 hours of pure runtime last Sunday based on the battery packs he used. He's defiantly ready but I'm not sure how ready the 2015 1.9 - 2.2 Trail Champ is?

I don't think we should encourage bringing yeti XL's to run at Taylors Falls. One guy did it once for giggles and it was tearing up the environment pretty bad. We would get kicked out if people start doing that.

Go read my thread I just made in this section saying I'm back.

Edit: Also, We might want to think about the power creep in regards to advancing motor and battery tech. I joined up back in crawling's infancy when we all had to cobble together rigs from parts from other rc's and fabricate the rest. It was popular to use high turn integy lathe motors like 45 and 55T. Now days we have a lot more power options and it is more affordable to juice up your rig. I hear a lot of guys advocating wheelspeed for crawling, but we need to watch ourselves otherwise we might eventually become a nuisance with our rigs shredding vegitation and digging up the terrain. This is a state park we are crawling in and they can get touchy about such things even though elsewhere it's not big deal. Also, at least once, maybe a few times I have seen all that wheelspeed launch a crawler up the rock he was climbing and off into the air. All we need is one spectator to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,(or even just someone passing through at the wrong time) getting hit to get us kicked out. We are able to drive rc there to begin with because we have slower vehicles that won't wreck the place and endanger other guests. I doubt they would tolerate a basher with an e-revo or the like driving all over the park. Sorry for the long, preachy, post, but we need to remember we are guests and extremely lucky to be able to crawl there as from what I hear most places wouldn't tolerate rock crawlers.

So T...you saying Don't bring a yeti xl? I'm confused.

Also, did you hear about lipo battery hazards? They are crazy dangerous if not constantly balanced. Sometimes that doesn't work. I heard a few guys buying ammo cans to store there lipos in. Check into it if your gonna run them.

Shut up and show up. Kevin can't wait to show you his rig and explain how he is cheating. Wait til you meet Barry. He's a nut case for wheel speed. I heard he builds motors between classes!

Yeah lots of guys are...why am I doing this...I'm tapping out...

I'm out for this comp guys. It was nice seeing a few faces at the test and tune. I might make it to a comp...might.

I'm out too. Still haven't put any of my trucks back together. If only 2 half built trucks could make one complete one, I'd be golden. My hammer is ready but it's not comp legal anymore.

Nice try... But the first rule of cheating is not telling anyone about it.

Great job Barry and Adam!! Adam had a perfect run on course 2 in pro with a bonus.

The event scores and rankings for the day are correct. The Dashboard for the season isn't quite working yet so it's empty.

If you notice a difference in your score, there was a lot of Math that was incorrect and some mis-calculation of penalties.
