Default Microgoats/Mogers project: MAN 8x8

Time to unveil the top-secret project Ben and I have cooked up

Starting with an idea Ben saw in abother buildup here, Ben's gonna handle the chassis and I'll whip up the cab. Somewhere along the way it'll get 4 TLT axles, narrowed Imex Claws, and a working crane in the bed. At 1/12 scale, it will be BIG

I started with this model:

which uses flat panels to build up the cab. I measured each panel and multiplied each dimension by three to get the 1/12 scale cab, and transfered the dimensions onto some 5mm Depron foam.

After about 3 hours, I've got this far:

Still got a long way to go. This is going to eat up quite a bit of time, but it's going to be a monster build! The finished model should be just over 36 inches when it's all said and done

Stay tuned!

I really think you guys should use TXT axles
What is the plan for the drive train? I get the impression that a single pede tranny is not going to be enough

Single pede with a GD600, and 35 turn works great on mine.

Drivetrain will be a hi-lift 3 speed, with a Holmes hobby Revolver BL setup and a mamba 25. Maxx drive lines, tlt turned down shocks with captured springs. Hummer 1.9 wheels and narrowed claw dawgs, 10 of them, 8 on the turck and 2 spares. I have the drivetrain for the crane already too, it is a 400-1 gear reduction unit I got from rbgerrish. This truck should be able to take a 2.2 crawler and lift it into the bed and haul it down the road, all by remote control I will be using a dx-6 radio for all the toys on it. I also ordered a sound kit from germany, so it will have real diesel sound controlled by the esc. It will have led's all over, 4 wheel front steer and front and rear winches. Stay tuned, it should be awesome!

As you can see, with a truck this big, it doesn't so much climb over the rocks; rather it smashes them into little pebbles

Well damn, someone beat me to it. I had this all planned out in my head, just didn't have the funds to start. At least I will be able to see what you guys do, what challenges you had to be able to build faster when I am ready.

What do you plan on using for tires? The All-T's look similar to whats on the box, but might be too tall. Geo's narrowed would probably look the best, but diff clearance might be an issue (might have to use full foams too so it doesn't bottom out the tires). I also assume that you will be using two big-rig axle cases so you can use one tranny?

Gonna need a bigger radio by my count ;)

Channels needed
  • Shift tranny
  • esc
  • steering
  • front winch
  • rear winch
  • crane lift
  • crane swivel

Even more if you want to be able to turn your lights on and off. I'm also guessing that if you actually want to pick up a 2.2 rig and load it you are going to need some outriggers to come down to keep your 8X8 from flipping over.
