You're right about that, Jason. I used all six channels on my rollback truck without even trying. Fortunately, you can buy a 23-channel Futaba, but it costs about as much as a 1:1 Unimog. I'm glad I just have to worry about the body I got hijacked by the Mrs. into going grocery shopping, so I only got this far today: This 5mm core is the structural foam layer. Later I'll hit it with some 3mm foam with a whole lot of surface detail. Then it'll start to look more like a cab and less like a dog house. |

You guys are crazy, but it is going to be one hell of a build for sure. the cab has already started to take shape, I can't wait to see all that drivetrain come together. Might want to think about a receiver pack as well to power all of those servos, or maybe one of those regulators I have started seeing on super trucks. that would be cool. Looks sweet so far Goat! -a |

I love this... I knew it would be worth the wait.. Goat - this body should speed right along since it really doesn't have any curves. Unimog - How about a snek peek of the frame |

I suppose its possible to have 2 radio's involved why just use 1 .... 1 for control of the truck 2 for the swing arm and other mechanic's then you guys can share the carnage Ive seen scale radio control boats use 2 radios many times in the past cause they have that much stuff they can activate Last edited by ede670; 12-31-2006 at 04:21 PM. |

I think Ben's still looking for an aluminum Christmas tree that's tall enough to cut some timbers from for the frame rails Ede, I don't think they make a radio with the sort of range required to let me work the crane from back here in Cleveland, but a pair of sixes is a whole lot cheaper than a single 12 |

6 channels should be fine, just do a a setup like a 1:1 with a removeable winch or you could splurge on the DX 7 |

Fokai, the foam is sturdy but not indestructible. I plan to lay some fiberglass cloth inside to give it a little more strength, but let's face it: if a pig like this goes over, there's going to be some carnage. Making the mounting points as strong as possible will help. I may bend up some aluminum and sandwich it in there, once I know what the frame's going to look like. Part of the difficulty of doing a transcontinental build is figuring out what happens when east meets west. It could end up like the last spike in the Polish railway in that old joke The foam by itself is stiff enough to make airplanes out of, and they crash all the time and re-fly, but a foam airplane rarely has 10+ pounds of chassis and wheels strapped to it when it falls out of the sky. Done right, a foamie is about as rugged as a styrene body. There will be a good bit of styrene in this one when I'm done with it anyway. |

It needs a canopy over the bed. Wow. When I was 8 I used to play with ROCO's HO military models. I had the MAN 8x8. All I can say is that Mogger's needs a canopy like on the 1:87 model I used to own. I can also respect the flat black, but if you're going to do that, would it be possible for Goat to just flat out dye the foam first? Surface knicks would look better. |
