That usually refers to the Exponential Function e^x where you change the value of x. It will yield a curve like the following: What that means as far as your radio is concerned, is as you change the value, you will start to get a non-linear throttle or servo response.....your radio will give more or less throttle throughout the trigger pull. |

If you adjust it, typically, it'll make it so more throttle gives an increasing amount of throttle than normal. Like an offcenter throttle cable pulley. Controversally, it could make it so the first bit of pull doesn't give it much gas at all, and it'll only really start to get into the power all the way back. |

Great replies thus far. Depending on the ESC, you can set "Expo" in the ESC or the TX. I usually use Castle Creations ESC's and set a "curve" (sorta expo) in the ESC so the 1st ~1/3 throttle trigger movement is a very small speed change that gets faster as I pull the throttle trigger. Using expo in the TX does the same thing, maybe with a more limited adjustment. |

Basically, you can make the "feel" of the steering or throttle better, or more to your liking. For example, most RC vehicles have more steering travel for any given amount of steering input at the radio right around center, and the response diminishes out around the maximum steering throw. So, one would put in some expo to make the steering a bit less sensitive at the straight ahead position to make it more linear. This is most useful with go fast rigs. Same for the throttle, most use the expo to make the throttle less sensitive right off of neutral. This is extremely useful in a crawler. Be aware that some radio brands use the + and - expo the opposite of other brands. |
