Default Gearing question!!!!

I have an scx 10 with ae-2, 2.2 tsl's, axial 55t motor, 20t pinion, and 87 spur. I just installed the tires and noticed a huge change in torque from the 1.9's. The motor is getting hot and seems very weak under load. I know its gotta be a gearing problem. I dont care about speed but I do want wheel speed and torque for mudding and crawling. What gearing do I need to run for for this setup?

I would change to a 14t pinion and check the temperature on the motor to see how it is running.
You may need to try a couple of different pinions to get the best combination.

^^try that, its the best gearing to start from when trying to find your golden combo
i run personally run 1.9 TTC Claws, 6oz/2oz FR/RR weights, Integy Pro Modified 45t, and 13T/87T
on my nearly 10lb scx truggy and run very cool on a 2s lipo w/PLENTY of torque at the 50% throttle

Welcome to the wonderful world of r/c electric gearing. There are a ton of threads all over the internet on every r/c forum on gearing based upon type of vehicle, application, gear pitches, battery, etc....

I think on/off road competition racing gearing is such a PITA! You can either do it the easy way (run the same setup as a that local track veteran...if he/she is willing to share). Or ask around and read forums and use applications to figure out your estimated MPH based upon your motor/esc/lipo and of course you have to factor in your roll out based on your tire size and then you have to figure in weight reduction/aerodynamics on top of all of this just to stay in the safe FDR for your particular course.

Don't even get me started on tuning lol!!

Luckily for us crawlers gearing is pretty easy. Just follow the general rule of thumb major adjustments must be first applied to the spur....then fine tune it with a variety of pinions until you find the perfect wheel speed/torque combo you like based on your esc/motor/battery.

Good luck and welcome to our forum!
