Default Stripped threads in plastic fix

I like everyone have stripped some plastic threads in a brand new axel housing (one holding the diff cover on) and I was wondering how to go about fixing this? I was thinking about filling the hole with jb weld and letting it dry overnight and then drilling it out and then threading the screw back in. Thoughts?

You could do JB Weld (it "cures", not "dries" since it's basically a 2 part epoxy), just make sure you get it to the bottom of the hole & fill it up.

You could also do brass inserts, something like this.... Products - OverkillRC

I thought there was something on here about using superglue also.

Id go with the brass inserts myself first, then maybe jb weld if u didn't do that... The brass inserts look similar to a helicoil and I think that would work great!

Try using a machine screw instead of the coarse thread screws. A lot of times the fine threads of the machine screw will get a better bite in the plastic.

Back when stadium trucks were real popular we always used superglue mixed with sawdust.

Since it's been approved and I already have some I'll try jb weld, if it fails I'll try inserts from Mcmaster carr.

Btw, it's a 2.5mm machine screw and I'd like to keep it if possible.

I had similar happen and repaired it with a helicoil kit. They can be bad quite cheap these days.

I use heli coils almost everyday at work, we machine alot of parts for VW here in Chattanooga and use the heli coils in the Delrin parts, they work great. I'd try the jb weld since u have it, then if that doesn't work, if check into the bushings or heli coils.
Good luck

Finally got this fixed, jb weld did not work AT ALL. "I'm going to fix this dang thing or destroy it trying" price check... $11.00....yup it's a go .

I contemplated melting some parts tree plastic and letting it drip into the hole untill it was full but that stuff doesn't melt and drip, it balls up and bursts into flames lol. So I put the screw in the stripped hole, put my Weller 40w on the head and heated untill the head sank about a hairs thickness and pulled the heat , waited about 20 seconds and then backed out the screw and then back in and viola it torqued rite down just like the rest of them! So far so good, if it fails I will update here and let you guys know.

Just put a drop or two of CA (superglue) in the hole first then the screw and let it dry. The glue is melting the plastic and filling the voids.
