Default rc4wd warn wireless winch

I guess I'm going to post this here being I am new to the page. I just picked up a rc4wd warn wireless winch and can't get the controller to bind with the receiver box. I hook up the warn winch to an old bulldog wireless controller and it worked fine. Has anyone else had this problem.

Check the batteries in the controller installed correctly.

Batterys are installed correctly. Not for sure how long u are supposed to hold the buttons in for the binding process.

Are you trying to connect/bind the winch's wireless controller to the receiver? From my understanding (I have the Warn winch without controller), you can only control that winch with the wireless remote that came with the winch and not with your transmitter. That wireless winch controller also connects to a separate battery pack as well. If you want to control your winch with your transmitter, you need a HeyOK winch controller or something similar.

Here's the winch I used to have before I replaced it with the Warn. Is this the same wireless controller you're talking about? Click HERE to see it. When the bulldog winch burned out, I picked up the Warn and used the wireless controller from the Bulldog to control it.

No I bought the hole thing winch and the controll unit. Plugged it in and nothing. There are introduction that come with it that tell u how to bind it. Followed them and still nothing. I have a bulldog wireless winch also so I plugged the warn into it and it worked fine. I checked all the batterys my pack is charged and the batterys in the little orange controller are in properly.

The wireless unit can only be controlled with the wireless key fob they may not have sent it to by mistake I am using the wired system so I can move my winch up and down with the TX. Contact RC4WD for the issue they may send you another wireless unit yours may be bad.

How did this turn out? Did the new unit work?

I would also like to know if this issue was resolved. I personally would like to also know the durability of this winch

mae a servo winch if you can, more strength and you don't need a key fob to make it work if you have a three channel radio

I got the controller. It stopped working in less than a week. Replaced with no questions. Works again for now.

Sorry haven't been on here in a while. I received my new controller for the wireless winch. Have not had a bit of problems with it. Works good. The only problem that I have had with the winch is the farlead. The pins that hold it on came out. So I used two small nails to hold them in.

I have 2 rc4wd warn winches and I was surprised to find out that they will let line back out if enough force is applied. If you get the wheels in a bind and the winch pulls hard when I let go of the button the winch un spools some to release tension. If the front wheels get lifted off of the ground when I let go of the button the wheels go back to the ground. Both of them do this so I assume it's normal?

My winch pulls out as well if there is enough pressure.

Also, a body clip works great for the pin to hold one of the rollers in.

regardless of whether it's the RC4WD winch or a servo winch...

there are no internal brakes on either
and should not be expected to compare to the function of a 1:1 winch.

gear reduction and torque are the only limiter's
that might reduce line out speeds at neutral.

A servo type winch could have better gear reduction/torque
then the RC4WD 9.5... but I don't know or care

If I pull out my winch line when disconnected from the battery...
My LED's will power up/light up until the spool stops turning.
turning the spool manually acts like a momentary generator.

Might be a stupid question but can the wireless one be used as a wired to a 3-Ch system ?

The wireless receiver/controller won't work as a wired controller. You'd need to buy a new winch controller for that.

Correct it will not work also you need to have a 3 position switch on your receiver due to it need to stop, if you just use a 3 channel it will put to much pressure on it and you will break your winch.

Just an FIY

I too purchased an RC4WD Warn winch and their wireless controller.

Mine worked as it should when recieved...
but it spools line out, when under load, way too easily IMO

So I tried the Hey OK wireless controller instead.
The Hey OK WC includes a better key fob design...
And an included electronic line lock system.

So it electronically limits the winch line from spooling out when under load
much better then did the RC4WD wireless controller.

Still spools out slightly with excessive heavy loads...
But the RC4WD Warn winch is of fault, not the Hey OK WC.

I still use the RC4WD Warn winch with mine...
But if the Hey OK WC were used with a servo type winch
that usually has more gear reduction.
The Hey OK wireless winch controller will hold the spool from turning
much better then will the RC4WD WC.

The Hey OK WC uses electronic resistance
in an attempt to replicate the function of having a spool/line brake.
Works purdy good and has proven to be reliable.

I would recommend the Hey OK winch controllers
over the RC4WD controllers... every time.

Hey OK winch controller's can be purchased
as either a wired or wireless controller.

Cost a little more then the RC4WD controllers
but way better and worth the additional cost. IMO
