Don't buy one of the crappy hotwheels ones... Kid in my neighborhood has one... asked me to clock him on his 20" bmx bike. He hit 41 miles an hour according to it. On a side note he also hit 19mph running... he is going to be a star! |

Cheapest way is probably going to be to draw a couple lines, use a stop watch, and do some math. I know some people use GPS to get their speeds, but #1 it adds weight, slowing you down, and #2 GPS isnt as accurate as many people think it is, especially when it comes to determining speeds and elevation. They are better than they used to be, you get close, but not exact. One guy might get 30mph with his GPS, and some other guy could strap his GPS to tthe other guys car and get 25 mph, or 35 mph, even if he has the same make and model gps.

I did have a cop try to write me a speeding ticket in my neighborhood when i was doing a top gear downhill run to see if my mtn bikes speedo would top out... he clocked my at 42 in a 30 zone. (My speedo said 40.9) When he asked for my license I laughed at him... he then tried to tell me my flashing LED red lights on my seat were illegally simulating police lights. I asked if he was really that bored... he said yes.

I looked at the hotwheels one and thought it was a joke! I figured the old school calculation idea was the best too but it's hard to be perfect with that also. Especially with faster cars. I'd like to see what my lipo rc18t does. Girlfriend wouldn't let me put that one on the treadmill! She also got mad because she hopped on the treadmill the next day and it was makin a funny noise. Taking it up to 13mph threw the ribbed drive belt off a few ribs! I tell you what, those treadmill motors are no joke..... |

Another problem with the tread mill is that it is really moving the front wheels faster because they are free spining (unless it is 4wd)

I'm nicer than that! I won't do stuff behind her back. If I can't talk her into it I shouldn't be doing it anyway! haha We do live together. heck she is the dyno operator. It's her "dyno" anyways. |

Sorry no dyno video but did put a quick video together. I wanted to get a video of it mostly stock. This with the 4WD and 2S lipo. I locked the diff yesterday but decided to run without for this video. I'm going to start stretching the wheelbase to 12.5", run maxx drive shafts and maybe slap some swamp dawgs on it with a new body. Sorry the vid is so short but I wanted to bash on it and not worry about the camera. It was cold. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v4...current=WK.flv |

That's my video. Speed of this truck was confirmed to be about 10mph with both GPS and RADAR.

It has a 27t motor in it so you can definitely get more top speed by changing out the motor to a lower turn. I put that 2S lipo in mine and it definitely helped out with top end and torque. I'm not sure what the motor limit on the esc is though.

I think the weakest link running a brushless will either be the tranny or the drive shafts. They are pretty short so they should handle it. I haven't seen the inside of the tranny so I can't say about that. I do know the tranny output shaft and the pinion shaft are 6mm which are the same as maxx drive shafts. Some people might think the ring and pinion won't hold up. I think it will but if they don't, they make a hardened steel ring and pinion set that will hold up to it. |
