| Looneybins 66 C-10
Well like ive said before i grew up with my dad owning 64/65 chevys. I have a short bed 2wd that one day i dream of restoring. When proline released the 66 chevy body i new i had to build a scaler but then in the back of my mind i knew these trucks look at home slammed on the ground. After some pondering i secured a bout new Tamiya CC01. Could have just stretched the wheelbase and ran it bit thats not my style. Cut the front off. Custome aluminum chassis rails. Axial SCX10 link parts and some HPI LP 22s. Got to figure it out from here. Any advise, pictures, or suggestions welcome. Not sure a have it in me to servo actuate the rear suspension or to leave it static dropped. Either way it will have some trick shock/link mounts and crazy ness back there.

Ok well started drawing out a mock up rails. These will provide upper link mounts as well as a mount for a cantilever shock mount setup that will allow the suspension to be lowered and raised via a servo.

Rough cut one side. Its gonna be a pig but the thick aluminum will allow me to drill out several speed/lightening holes throughout. Man i would kill for the right tools sometimes. I do it all the hardway. At least i got a portaband and drill lol

Yeah that is thick metal! 11 gauge (.120") would be more than enough. Why did you go so thick? Sweet looking body though and nice start. |

Well the cantilever setup was proving difficult and i wanted to get it to a roller. Went ahead and made a new subframe. Thinner this go round. Still got loots to wrap up then i have to order a body and tires.

Thanks guys. Went to try and order a body and they are backorderd everywhere oh well. Ordered the CC01 lowering kit mainly for the the wheels and tires. Going to try the tires out and will be painting up the Tamiya wheels to look like red steelies. Got to finish this trailer so i will have the complete setup tow rig and all.

Thanks ill have to make a thread on the trailer. Got the battery mount sorted and added some aluminum to the front. Hopefully with a sturdy base front and rear i can incorporate a cantilever servo controled adjustable suspension setup. For now it will be on shocks low and slow.

Got my Tamiya parts. Rear end will sit lower once the new body arrives and i cut out the bed floor. Ordered the body and some teal blue paint. Body will be patina and weathered. Plan is to sand down the rivits on the Tamiya wheels. Paint the centers red and leave the lips chrome. Then decide if they or the LPs look better.

Well i went back to 1/4" aluminum for the rear frame section. Looks more like a real chassis now plus its all one peice. Body should arrive sometime next week. Got my teal and white as well as some rust colors. Gotta have the patina. Once i get the body painted i will decide whether im gonna do the rims with black, white, or red centers.

Got the body and paint in. Gonna get all the body mounting finnished before i put paint on it. Cut out the bed floor so the chassis could come through. Should be nice and low.

Well in between camping, preparing for a daughters birthday, a bathroom remodel and just pure business i shot a lottle black undercoat on the body. At some point ill find time to mask it off and spray the outside layers. Gonna have a couple layers of rust and primer an a teal copcoat that i will sand down to expose the patina look. Probably gonna redo the battery tray and do a floor board and inner cab.

Nothing like intentionally ruining the paint on a $55 body.

THIS. IS. AWESOME. I have been jonesing for a nice custom CC01 build for a slammed street car for a couple months now. Then I got the new issue of RC Car action and its got a CC01 beetle custom. Now I just happen to stumble upon this build here. dang. I need to start on my idea. I have only seen one done like what I want, and it was sort of a hack job. your chevy is miles beyond what I will do. mine will fall between this and the hack job lol I will hope to start when I am done with my F-100 ascender. and yes, the steelies are the way to go! even all gunmetal with white/patina centers would look amazing against the teal! |

Well i fawked up the body. Had issues with the miss matched paint and it lifted. Then i stripped it some and had problems. I gots to figure something out. Think it will be ok once i can finish getting the old paint off and respray on the outside.
