I'm building my rig to be water resistant, but hardly waterproof. If we get to a point where it's my hand or ruined electronics, hand of God will apply!

A carpenter pal of mine is building a 10x26" plank bridge out of some lightweight redwood. He was gonna make it look kinda rustic and weathered, like one you would dare to cross in real life, hehe. Gadget if you decide to make another one, make it a different size so we have some options... I'm sure you'll come up with something clever As for water, Im game for whatever too. I don't have a winch, but will have some tow straps in the back for some scale recoveries, just in case.

| Re: Scaler trail run 3/9/13 Hell yeah. We could easily end up with over 10-12 folks for this run then. I'm already scouting other locations for this year. The wonderful thing about WNC is the abundance of mountain trails, natural rock formations, and waterfalls. If everyone has a good time in March, we will be having more of these in 2013. |

I can't tell ya much about using a winch or the "Hand of God" , but I myself like to use the "Foot o Persuasion"!! it's not just a preference-sometimes it's a MUST!! Just ask the guys I run with they'll tell you I can get my rig in some pretty nasty predicaments! |

I'm doing my best to build a couple 12' and 24" sections to cross from big rock to big rock.

Cool to see all of the potential interest in this outing! I'm looking forward to seeing how many rigs show up. The more the better to pull me out of trouble spots

I was in Ashville well Arden about 5 year ago for a 1/8 buggy nitro race on out past the airport and turn right. There was also a small hobby shop there close. Just wondering if any one now crawling was around of remembers this. I do actually have a crawler question. What is a popular turn motor that you guys use in the scale crawlers. I have been running a 35t. |

Probably the best average would be 35T. I have a 55T in mine now, but I also have a 45T that I can swap in quickly. Just depends on what trail condition I will be running. I personally don't care for a 35T because at that speed, it isn't scale. I mean, a 4x4 pickup truck doesn't do 120mph through the woods. But that is what MOST people like, so that makes my opinion rather pointless I guess! If I had to pick ONE motor... it would be a 45T. The only reason I have a 55T is for sloooooow Rock Crawling days. The 45T is my real preference.

| Re: motors
It's all about driving style, but gearing is also a determining factor. I'm not a crazy fast driver, but I'm running a 17t Trinity Monster Maxx 550 mod motor in the SCX Bronco. Sounds ridiculous, but it makes more torque(270nm) than a 55t 540 motor, and when properly geared it's no faster than a stock SCX setup and has silky smooth low end control. All that torque and wheel speed is great for running weighted wheels and taller 1.9s On the other hand, I use a 35t Integy lathe motor in the Trail Stomper, with R2 trans, D60 axles and it is barely faster than a walking pace. It has exceptional torque, and is awesome for slow technical stuff, but occasionally suffers from not having enough wheel speed, and tends to slide off line sometimes when cresting a steep ledge, etc... I never have that prob with the Trinity in the SCX ;) Last edited by Bad Apple; 02-23-2013 at 08:50 AM. Reason: Dyac! |

In honor of my 200th post, I thought I'd share a pic or two of the 1.9 TJ I'm building that will be my scaler for Triple Falls... I'm pretty happy so far. Last edited by jkabee; 02-24-2013 at 07:54 PM. |
