Default Fitting JK Hardbody (Boomracing) om SCX10 (standard transmission)

Hello
New here, and from Denmark. Just fell in love, with the yellow Jeep body, and it is on its way now.

One thing, i didn't know, before ordering, was, that the floor, of the body, is too low, for standard scx10-transmission.

Instead of starting, with another transmission (low budget), and a total rebuild, i would like to know, how to take away, part of the floor, So that, there is room, for the transmission.

Is this possible?

I think of taking out the interior, and cutting out, and hope, that seats and gearstick, can get in, again, in top of the transmission.

Anybody tried this at home?

Hope for great advices.....

Get the front motor mount and transfer case from gcm. It's worth the money, even on a limited budget rather than carving up such a great hardbody like that jeep.

Another thing you can do if you're super tight on budget is get rc4wd's low CG tranny for an ax10/scx10 skid. I personally have never had much luck with any metal rc4wd sells except my hardened xr10 gear set they made.

Anyone try their low CG tranny before?

Interior doesn't come out. You will have to cut it out and imo ruin the whole point of getting it

There's 4 Phillips screws on mine and the cab drops out separate from the rest of the interior.

Dash and center console and back of the rear seats come out and that's it. Floor pan is molded in...

Highly unlikely, unless you're really not picky about how high the body sits above the frame. If you want the frame and body and bumpers to all sit and look about like they should on a real JK, then no, not even close. The floorpan on mine sits right on top of the inch or so tall transfer case I made.

Easiest option would be to spend a decent chunk of money on the GCM conversion. Cheapest would be to fabricate everything yourself. A good compromise would be to order a transfer case from someone and make a cheap front motor mount.

Forgive the rough nature of the one in the pic, that was just a test-bed version and I haven't gotten around to getting pics of the finalized pretty version.

The front mount plate is incredibly simple. It's made from 1 by .064 inch brass strip, though of course any material will do, brass is just what I had on hand.

The general shape is (not to scale) this. . .

The plate is cut to length to be pinched tight by the chassis as the screws are tightened into the crossmember, which needs to be rotated 180 degrees so the open end of the horseshoe shape is facing rearward. The notches on each side are roughly 6 by 5mm, and were centered on the plate. The point of the notches is to allow the crossmember to act as a brace for the whole plate, both keeping it from twisting and pushing the plate tight against the upper part of the chassis rail.

Moving the notches forward and aft on the plate will change the height and angle of the transmission, so it's something that you can play with to get the position you need.

It's not a perfect set-up, doesn't get the total height as low as the commercial kits I've seen, but it keeps the weight low, works with a 4-link, little time investment (the second one took about 10 minutes to make) and costs a buck or two in materials, it works out well.

Oh and a bonus, rotating the chassis crossmember also facilitates an easy CMS set-up, since the holes that used to mount the RX box are now in front where a small piece of aluminum angle can be mounted.

I feel like a dweeb quoting myself, but it's easier than typing it all up again.

You will have to make your own to fit the body.

I almost have my NB JK setup done...2.2 on VP Curries Wraith setup on a GCM Cross Canyon chassis with GCM T Case and front mounted motor/tranny. MIP shafts on all 3 outputs...loaded axles...loaded tranny to run a Holmes Sensored brushless setup.

Thinking on how to setup my links to get the wheelbase I'm aiming for. The NB JK will be converted to a drop bed JK8 Brute so I'm aiming for around 13" wb.

That would create quite the gear reduction. The GCM forward mount keeps the trans mounted at the front and the Dinky uses the trans gears as well.
