Default Mask twice or paint over top?

I am painting a hard body Gelande II D110 body. I am painting it a lighter shade of green and black for the fenders, roof, and possibly the hood. Should I mask it, paint one color or the other, then mask again and paint other color, or should I paint the entire thing green then mask off what I don't want black and paint the black over top of the green?

I would paint the body one of the 2 colors. Then mask it off and paint the other color. Spray very thin coats of the second color to ensure there is no bleeding under the masks. If you spray black first you'll probably need to spray black, mask it, then spray white to cover the black and then spray your green color

+1 at least 24 hrs ... and make sure your paints are the same, if you mix lacquer and enamel you'll need a lot more time between colors

paint tip.

for lexan, dark colors first. light colors last. back with silver.

for hardbodies... light colors first. mask. then dark colors last.

flash time between colors 15-20 minutes of color paints

24 hours for taping over a color. heat helps baking paint.

do not use lacquer with enamel. some enamels don't work well with other enamels.

best paint tip ever. practice on scratch pieces! you can use this to get the best effect ever. then take your time on the real piece.

and don't forget to prep.

Thanks everyone, I have practiced on scrap lexan just to compare different colors to decide which to go with. Thanks for the tip of sanding the green part being painted over.

Thanks

Make sure to clean the body good between colors with Dawn dish liquid. Try not to handle the body with you fingers as much as possible. Talc free latex gloves are what I use to help prevent wrinkles and other paint defects from forming. Some types of paints don't like a 2nd coat by the way. Use a good Hobby brand of paint and shake very well. i.e. Testors, Tamiya, Model Masters
