Default Pactra polycarbonate paint backing with other paint types?

Ok so nearest hobby shop is 2.5hrs away and ordering paint is a no go at $50 shipping +$16 for 2 cans of lexan paint. So the body is going to be pactra silver already had a full can but backing it is the real question what types of paint can i back the pactra lacquer with? What will not react badly over top of the pactra? Insights are greatly appreciated.

Once you have a solid coat of Polycarbonate paint laid down you can back it with just about any model paint, except Latex house paint.

Polycarbonate paints are usually compatible with each other, so you can back with a Tamiya backing black, or like Stormin2u said, once a polycarbonate paint is laid down first, you can back with any black, just make sure the poly paint is fully cured.

You can back Pactra with Tamiya but you cannot back Tamiya with pactra, it reacts like lacquer and enamel.

Huh- Did not know that. Good info! I wonder why that is? I mean, I'm sure it comes down to the compounds in the different paints, but it's strange that they only react when laid down in one order vs the other.

On that note, what do you guys like to use as the most cost-effective backing paint? Buying polycarbonate specific paint gets expensive!

I use Tamiya PS paints on everything polycarbonate, and back with Testor's flat black enamel.

Yeah, I've been using up cans of Tamiya or Duratrax black backing my bodies.... all the time thinking.... do I really need to use polycarbonate paint for backers?

If The body is painted with polycarbonate paint, could I get a larger can of black flexible paint (krylon?) from somewhere like Home Depot to use as a backer?

For another 20 bucks go on amazon and buy an entry level air brush.

Paint for lexan become cheap and available at most craft store.
