Yeah and I had another break again today. The 90 degree bellcrank that attaches to the steering broke today, it looked like there was an air bubble in the plastic, I ordered a new one and am hoping it was a fluke otherwise I will be hunting for a metal one.

Still love the car, but am a little concerned about the breakage that has been happening. I guess I need to order up some rear hing pin mounts too.

Well Rodney and I started talking about painting bodies today, that along with the CRC series starting next saturday and I decided I needed to paint up a new shell for the beginning of the series.

I had a couple Tamiya Subaru bodies sitting around, so I picked out a 2001 Subaru Impreza and did the fastest paint job I have every done. :ror:

It turned out pretty good and I went photo crazy.

good evening everybody... do please pardon my english, still learning on how to use this language..

my country of origin is in Indonesia (located in south east asia for those who might ask where it is) ;-)

just a few months ago I sumble on this thread by mr. Turtle and I looked around astounded by the paint works you've done.. while I was lookin' for a DF03ra set-up the kit were not widely available at the time, then I saw the VX-01 kit.. I'm interested in the rally version because of the terrain available here around my neighboorhod (aspalt + gravel + dirt), so I ordered one after a carefull thought

I've build the sexy thing in 3 three weeks, coz I can only build it right after works and in the weekend  it's a slow process but I do appreciate the time needed.

in short.. after bein' inspired by Turte's paint job, I tried it myself.. and now I now how to applied it

http://www4.picturepush.com/photo/a/...0/11254462.jpg
[/spoiler]

I ordered the standard version, well coz it's the only kit available of course. Slowly I'll manage to upgrade it little by little.. the slip clutch is on it's way right now

well I guess that's the introduction for now.. thank you for a great thread by the way...

Re: Turtle's Modified XV-01

Thanks guys! "thumbsup"

Had to go through the XV01 today and add a couple more metal parts just to make sure she stays together tomorrow.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._3467small.jpg

Replaced all toe blocks with metal now.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._3472small.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._3471small.jpg

And went ahead and threw the extra grippy Academy rally tires on.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._3470small.jpg

I didn't have time to make an underbody or an interior and because we had some snow fall the other day I went ahead and added some more rubber to keep the dirt out.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._3474small.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._3475small.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._3476small.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._3473small.jpg

Between the rubber and body now the wheel wells are basically sealed.

First race of the Colorado Rally Championship is tomorrow morning at the 40th street track, should be tons of fun.

Re: Turtle's Modified XV-01

I just recently ordered the Drive Belt & Slipper Clutch Set from RCmart.. coz many of the parts for XV-01 are not (yet) available here in Indonesia.... huuffft..

the price on rcmart is a bargain but the shipping cost + custom are a bit high for me

I did looked up the yeah racing package and it's a must for hopup

oooyea got a few questions,
how much affect does the alumunium suspension mount compared to the plastic one?
about the differential locker, what does it do compared to the stock plastic gears? any side effect?

If you are referring to toe blocks:
There have been several people that have broken the stock plastic toe blocks (generally the equivalent to Tamiya 1XJ). So because of seeing and hearing about these breaking I decided to replace them before there was an issue. I am sure there are other reasons to replace them, but I did it for durability.

If you are referring to shock towers and A arms:
They will make the shock towers more rigid, which creates more precise handling. Personally though, unless I start breaking them have no plans to buy the metal A arms or shock towers, seems like over kill to me and I don't think it will add all that much in handling.

The locker will give full power to both tires on that differential. In really loose conditions it could help. If you put it in the rear it is going to make the car understeer a little and be tail happy going around corners, if you put it in the front it is going to cause the front to bite harder in a straight line, but cause it to push through the corners. Personally I think the one-way and lockers are more aimed toward drifters.

I have locked diffs in rally cars before (generally out of necessity) and prefer the driving characteristics of open differentials.

Re: Turtle's Modified XV-01

last night I installed the Slipper Clutch Set to my XV-01.. but then I stumble upon another puzzle

after I reassemble the kit I noticed a difference in a high pitch whining noise coming from the slipper clutch & pinion gear housing, and when I tried to move the front two wheels together it doesn't move as freely as before.. :???:
then I reset the contact distance between the Spur and Pinion gear, it gives me a reasonable movement again..
at the same time I fiddle with the adjustment of Slipper Screw and the Lock Nut and came up with around 2.5 - 3mm.

I used the 22T stock Pinion Gears though.. does it contribute to the problem I had? coz I read at the instruction it suggest be use with a 48 pitch Pinion Gear (24 - 29T)

thank you for the reply..

Yeah the slipper clutch changes the pitch (distance the teeth are from each other). You can't use the stock pinion gear. Some people call Tamiya pinions metric pitch, the slipper setup is a standard pitch. The extra noise and rough mesh is because the gears are not compatible.

You need to buy a 48 pitch pinion. "thumbsup"

Yeah Paul (Basic Mods) got video and posted it up. There was only three of us with the DRXs yesterday and we decided to all run at once, so we didn't get any video of those, but this video is really cool.

There are two XV-01s in the video, mine and RPMJs (gold & black)
