| XV-01 vs Rally Legend
Hi! Im looking to get a new car to mess around in parking lots with so my tc-fd stops getting the shit beat out of it. I've pretty much narrowed it down to these 2 cars. I like the rally legends cars but it seems they have pretty much fell off the face of the earth and Im afraid of parts support. The XV-01 is an incredible car from what I've seen and read, but IDK if it will have enough ground clearance? Im looking to be able to toss road tires on the car or rally or drift tires and just go beat on it w/o much regard. Ill either run a 17.5 or a 13.5 with heavy boost. Its about a 50$ difference between the pair. |

I have both and like & enjoy both but the XV-01 is a better car, no doubt. Ground clearance on both is just about equal. |

You have a bunch of options with the XV-01. At first, I ran mine with stock (Pro kit) springs and short shock ends, that gave me pretty low ground clearance and lots of body roll. It was ok on pavement, but scraped like crazy offroad. Then I switched to longer shock ends, that gave me much more ground clearance, but still some crazy body roll. This wasn't too good on pavement, but was definitely much better offroad. Both of these were with the Pirelli tires. Now I'm running short shock ends, but also put on touring car springs. That dropped the ride height to about 6mm I think, and also stiffened everything up. I just ran it like that in the parking lot and it handled great! Lots of fun, very easy and forgiving, with the ability to kick the back out on demand. This was with HPI X-pattern compound D tires. So, depending on what you want to do, the XV-01 can do it. My ultimate setup will be to get some of the harder offroad springs Tamiya is going to be releasing, and then alternate between short and long shock ends, depending on where I'm running. I say get the XV |

I'm back! I have both of these cars and both are pretty rugged, but the XV-01 is by far a better driving vehicle, it does have a couple week links, but once upgraded properly and tuned is pretty much unbeatable when it comes to drivability. The RL cars look beautiful and there are tons of upgrades for them, but can't compete with the driving of the XV-01. Before the XV-01 came out I think the RL could compete with just about anything else on the market, but sadly the XV-01 puts everything else to shame, especially when you slap some long travel shocks on. |

Reinforced rear belt and front and rear aluminum suspension mounts are in. Also tightened the belt as it was skipping under heavy braking. Plan to go beat the hell out of it tomorrow.

| Re: XV-01 vs Rally Legend The car ran amazingly. Both me and by buddy put these things through their paces. His car just broke a rear hub after a high speed roll over 8 or 9 times. Cars are a total blast. |

So I've got a lot of new stuff for this little guy. First off I put a 3900kv 4pole motor in it and its fantastic. Tried the Kenmore rally tires and they are great but wear really fast, but for 20$ and if they were only on dirt I think they would be fine. Bought a slipper, off road springs and the aluminum pulley for it. Set to install tomorrow. May change the ESC from my rs to a MMP or some Novak havoc. Also bought a wr8 flux to run with this car and its fantastic. Rally cars rock!!!

So heres what I did for the rear belt tensioner mod, I kept slinging belts if I was doing donuts or anything where there was alot of rpms quickly. This appears to have solved my issues with it. I used a .5mm wheel spacer from 3racing. |

I didnt realize I've not been updating this thread, I've been running my green wrx body until one day I sent it into a pile of rocks I didnt see at full speed and it tore the body in half. Nothing broke on the car however. I do now have these 2 bodies for it, both tamiya, still debating on which to run. The yellow 240z is a clone of my real car, so Im not super stoked on wanting to use it, however its kinda beat so I'd not care either way. Also swapped out my RS for an SV3, but I dont really like the way the throttle feels with it, so I may swap back. |
