| Help......newbie in trouble
Hi guys, I’m after a bit of help (well quite a lot really). I’m totally new to LiPo, as in never used them before and I’m feeling really overwhelmed and confused right now. I’ve just ordered a Tamiya XV-01 pro rally chassis from the US (I’m in the UK) so not got it in front of me to get any measurements. These kits are virtually impossible to track down right now. Anyway heres my story, I’m sure you’ll have had experience of (fingers crossed)…. I want to put the following components in the build what’s your feeling on it? Battery: Turnigy 5200 30c 2s hard case LiPo (don’t know if this fits) Charger: No idea too confused!! please suggest…… Servo: Savox 1251 ESC/Motor: Castle Combo - Sidewinder 3 - 5700kv or is this too much? Please could someone tell me what connectors I would need to connect a Turnigy battery to a Castle Sidewinder 3 ESC? I don’t think the Castle has anything on its power wires? Do these need to be ordered seperately? What would be a good charger to compliment this size battery. I doubt I’ll be going above 2S, so I don't need anything (batteries or charger) too fancy but would like it to be safe and fairly quick without being stupid about it. One last thing, what sort of run time would one of the batteries give on an XV? Sorry about asking these questions that must have been asked before (many times probably). I have tried to search for the answers on here and various other sites but through my lack of knowledge I just got more confused!! There are just so many options for everything. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance |

Hey mate. I've measured the battery tray before, but can't remember what thread i posted it in, so will have another look for you tonight after work, unless anyone comes back to you before then.... Once you've got that measurement, then pick your battery. If you're on Hobbyking's site, then any of theose Turnigy's should be fine. You just might have to go down in capacity to get a slightly smaller battery. All their batteries have measurements on the website so you should be good. Looking at their site, most chargers are out of stock, but even this cheapy would be fine IMAX B6 AC-DC Charger 5A 50W With US Plug (Copy) You'll see they say "copy", so it's a imitation of the real brand. I love my new touchscreen SkyRC charger (can't get on to that site here at work) Depending on what battery you get, they will come with an adapter. You can pick the same one for the ESC and charger from here, or swap them all out to a different one, like Deans, or Traxxas connectors: Chargers & Accessories>Battery Adapters Ooops, gotta go to a work meeting. There's a bit for you to start looking at anyway.... |

If that battery is coming from HobbyKing, it will probably have 4mm bullet connectors. You can get an connectors though and just solder them on there.

Turnigy nano-tech 4000mah 2S 45~90C Lipo Pack Can't see the exact 5200 SxJT is talking about, but there are plenty with leads. Just pick one of them that fits... Sorry, forgot to measure last night.

5700kv might be a bit much. I think the xv-01's sweet spot is between 3k and 5k. BUT don't let that discourage you. Turtle has been running and winning our series with that motor for years. I haven't had experience with a sindwinder, but its a castle product, i'm guessing it's nice. If you can solder, I say just put deans connectors on both the ESC and the battery (male one the esc, female on the battery). If you can't solder, find someone who'll help... good luck dude! |

Thanks for the numbers fella!! I've been having a look around the web since posting the original question and on the HobbyKing site theres a guy says he's using them in his XV? But by your numbers, their measurements seem to be too big by a mm or so. Turnigy 5200mAh 2S 30C Hard-Case Car Lipo Pack (ROAR APPROVED) (AU Warehouse) Do you think it would fit by the measurements on the HobbyKing page? Also HobbyKing suggested the Turnigy Accucel 6 charger and a HobbyKing 350w 25A Power Supply (220v~240v) what do ya think of those? Any better suggestions or are they as good a place to start as any? Turnigy Accucel-6 80W 10A Balancer/Charger LiHV Capable (UK Warehouse) HobbyKing 350w 25A Power Supply (220v~240v) |

I'm sure that charger will be fine. Do you need DC power though? You're all of a sudden doubling the price because you need a power supply. See what AC/DC chargers are around. I love my SkyRC one T6755 Charger

Like I said I know nothing about batteries or chargers and thats what Hobbyking suggested when I asked for their advice on what was the best entry/budget charger for 2s LiPo 5200. I told them I was in the UK and would be charging 99% of the time from 240v mains (house). I even replied to their suggestion of that power pack asking if it was really necessary and they replied that it was because it had the correct connections needed for that charger?? |

The Thunder AC6 charger is pretty popular and is super cheap. It'll charge and balance just about any battery you could try and it works on AC and DC power. There are some clones as well, in fact I think the Thunder Ace is a clone as well. Anywho, great charger and it's about as cheap as it gets. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It will be fine, I'm just saying, for $100- plus or whatever your currency conversion is, there are lots of ACDC chargers available. Basically you only need one box, one lead, less room. And yes, the power supply is needed for that charger, but not for most. I've been racing and bashing RC for about 15 years and never used a power supply. Up to you.... Do you have a local hobby store? It may be beneficial to pop in there and have a chat, get a bit more knowledge. They may be more expensive, but that knowledge may be worth something to you, or just take their knowledge then shop online Good luck!
