Default Transmission slop???

Well I got my TF2 today, Freaking Awesome I might say.
So here is my Question - how much slop does you transmission have???
When I have it in high range I can rotate the spur gear 1/4 turn before it engages, when in low range I can rotate the gear 1/2 turn before engagement.
Is this normal on the TF2's or do I need to call RC4WD???

Mine has "freeplay" but not enough to concern me. I dont think i have as much as you. Over all i have a fair bit of slop throughout the machine, i can only asume thats the rc4wd way. So far i am more than happy for the price but its no "jewel"

What you are describing is not slop but a side effect of the two speed shift mechanism. The gears have slots cut into them to allow shifting on the throttle. If you look inside the tranny you will see. All shiftable transmissions (Tamiya,Traxxas) I have seen have this characteristic due to the mechanism. The R3 actually has smaller slots than most to try and reduce this.

Yeah, mine does that too. I assumed it was 2spd related.

I figured I'd be ok as long as I didnt jam gears at full throttle while going forward & reverse.

Ok, pulled the trans apart sure enough it has the tabs that engage in long slots. Looks like others are the same.
This is my first experience with a multi speed trans. I was just concerned that it should have been a positive engagement like a dig trans?

Thanks for the help guys

No, it's like that so you can shift whilst on the throttle.
