Default My new to me TF2

got this off ebay for 5 bills.. thought i did ok. told by a few i paid to much... not that it matters. mine now. anyway this is about as new as it gets... got a nib body as you see some upgrades.. took it for the first run today.. pretty disappointed.. drive shafts are pretty weak and pop easily. the hinged shackles unscrewed.. both front leaf springs are bent! not even a full pack.. the shocks it came with seem weak. have very little suspension travel.. . i hope to fix things up.. like to keep it leaf springs.. maybe i would be better off with a 4 link.. not sure yet.. here is some pics.. any thoughts on what to do ? thanks

Nice looking tf2. I gots me one too. First off five isn't bad for what ya got. A rtr and another body! Secondly the leaves will never flex as much as a four link. Now that said, you can get them close but it is a different type of driving skill to pull off the same path as a coil sprung vehicle just took. That's part of the fun. Rc4wd has a red leaf spring kit that flexes better than the black. But from the way you are talking I think linking it would probably make you happier. You prob will be better off getting some shocks that hold oil if you are wanting extreme performance along with some heavy duty driveshafts. Hey upgrading what doesn't work well for you is a big part of the fun of this hobby. You just became an automotive technician, albeit 1/10 scale!

From what I see I don't think you paid to much. As for your issues with it
1. The driveshafts are known for being weak and popping off, I went to Traxxas steel yokes and shafts and no issues
2. The leaf springs last longer if there is at least 1 extra leaf with the main one
3. Likely the shooter shackles just need some thread locker and they will be good to go
4. The shocks have a spring in them that from my experience help with the ride height because when I took them out of the rear shocks on mine the rear suspension squatted a bit and when fully compressed it stayed mostly compressed.

Remove the front shocks and cycle the suspension and you'll see how much they limit movement. Longer shock towers or a small lift will help allow a longer shock.

I've set a few TF2's up with the scaler shocks and they work great. You won't be able to run them up front unless you either extend the mounts up, or add a lift block to the leaf packs.

The Shooter shackles and the red leaf packs can be a big mess. Much too much flex if you end up fitting longer shocks. A friends setup was just too much and he ruined the leaf packs.

Your flex right now is limited by your shocks, not a spring that is too stiff. Tackle one change at a time to see the effects of each. By taking the shock off and watching how everything cycles you can see where you're hanging up and binding. Stock shackles and leaf packs actually articulate pretty well without the stock 80mm shock there. By Going to a longer shock you can get more articulation.

I believe blue monkey makes some lift blocks that will give you room to mount some longer shocks. Not sure how much longer as I haven't tried it.

You can bend them back, but they will bend easier than they did the first time. The rc4wd red springs bend very easy if you don't add some helper springs under it

Just bend them back and add the short helper on top of the main leaf. That way u won't loose any articulation and still end up with a stiffer leaf pack.

i broke 2 red leafs by not using a helper between the axle and red leaf. they make a huge difference though!
as for high lift leaves, they are pretty stiff, good in a pinch but stiff.
this chassis is the most scale i have seen and i have to say, you got a GOOD deal man!

Too much? from the prices ive seen on here most would try to sell the roller without any extras for $500...

With the extra body ($100), Radio, plus extra's, and the fact you said it was like new condition i think you got a pretty good deal for $500

With the Shooter shackles you may wreck them pretty quick.

got the red Springs in the mail today. Since I was waiting for I took the truck all part. Put Marine grease in everything. Just like I did with my scx10. There seems to be some binding now. Could it be that there's too much grease? Looks very tight inside the case.. Maybe I need remove some? Looking forward to getting this back together. I am going to take off the shooter shackles see how the Springs do by themselves. Thanks for the help
