Thumbs up Crawlorado719's TF2 80's style!

Hey all,

I'm a child of the 80's, and the Toyota SR5 was a truck that always caught my eye as a kid. So when I picked this kit up I decided to keep it as close as possible to a 80's Toyota SR5 pickup truck.

I wont bore you with a build story and what not...I'm a big fan of pictures.

Stats:
Castle Sidewinder v3 Waterproof esc
HH TM 35t Sport
Hitec 7954-steer
Futaba 3003- shift
CC BEC
Futaba 4PL tx/rx

Stock build with the only "mod" being front wheels wrapped.

Done and ready for it's maiden trail run!

I really like this truck and the way it drives and looks. Hope you all like it...this is just the beginning for this rig.

Thanks for looking!

Nice looking TF2. I've seen your Sawback posts, how does the TF2 compare being that their both sprung rigs?

Hey buddy, I thought your screen name looked familiar lol. You know, I only got to drive the TF2 a few times and with it still "breaking in" I feel it's about the same performance wise. The Tf2 of course has more scale detail and behavior while driving. The Sawback lacks the small details and "quality" the TF2 has...but what do you expect out of a kit that's almost a $150 less. Don't get me wrong the Sawback is a awesome rig for the price BUT if you want a SCALE rig it's gotta be a TF2 or Gelande. I'm not trying to ride the RC4WD wagon that's just the way I see it lol. I think I'm gonna gear the Sawback for a more extreme trail runner.

Hey, do what you wanna do man! That's the beauty of this hobby, I won't be that guy hating on people that "stole" my idea. To be honest I think I seen the plate on the dash on a D90 in a thread on here and said hmmmmm.

Got it in the bed man!

So I'm a little sad this morning...last night I noticed the truck would "settle" to the passenger side almost a 1/4'' . So me being a OCD freak took the front shock apart and looked around to see if the inner spring was crushed or something. I put a few drops of shock oil in and tried to screw top cap back on.....well after a few attempt's the cap would only go half way down and not seal. It was like the inner spring was binding the threading action. So what do I do...yep stupid. I put a little umph on the cap and snap the top cap shock mount rips off. After calming down i noticed the rear passenger shock was doing the same thing. Is this normal or did I not assemble the leaf pack right?

That's a bummer! :(
When I weren't through my shocks, I noticed what you are talking about - just work it back and forth and it will go all the way back into place - those threads were a bear, but they will work fine, just need to fiddle a bit.
Re: the leafs, a pic might help, but they might be getting distorted due to wrap - what setup did you do on the leafs? I might have missed it - but if you went with a single then they do bend fairly easy, and in default build, they can wrap and bend pretty easy too. You can reverse your fronts, and put an anti-wrap in the rear to get rid of most of that problem and still retain a softer sprung setup.

That's a really great looking truck, I love the color scheme.
As for the springs, mine sits a tiny bit crooked sometimes, it's not enough to be problematic. It's hard to get all the leaf springs to break in evenly, so don't expect them to be all perfectly equal stiffness.

Thanks Doug! I just recall hearing about sagging suspension and different leaf combos. I ran the main spring and middle spring under..with no short spring. I got a new shock in so I installed the short spring under the middle leaf . It sits more straight now...but we'll see. I hope it's like the Sawback and "breaks In".

Thanks bud It's always a good time with more yota's out playing. We'll get you squared away with the cargo situation.

Speaking of cargo...
