Default Changes at Redcat

Former Axial president & co-founder joins Redcat as their new president. Seems like they're serious now. I hope this means they'll become a major player in the scale world. I like what i'm seeing with so far with the Gen 8. Maybe they'll be able to shake the "Redcat is junk" crowd now.

This is unexpected. I can't wait to see how some of the Axial fanboys react to this.

Cool!

Hopefully his new position is a fit and if so we should be able to expect some pretty awesome crawlers from the Cat!

I’m hoping for something Exo Terra style with better engineering. Redcat does already have a smorgasbord of RC lineups.

The Gen8 will probably end up shipping with plastic links and a self-destructing servo.

So, according to Facebook, Axial is dead and now Redcat is number 1.

I can't see this as a bad change at Redcat but it's gonna take some time to turn around the perception of Redcat though.

And they actually have to make real improvements to the quality in order to change said perception.

Redcat has demonstrated that they want to design their own stuff and not just be a rebrander. The Gen7 was the first land based RC that had significant design elements from Redcat incorporated. The Gen8 takes that significantly further in that nearly 100% of its parts are Redcat designed.

On the quadcopter side, Redcat has been doing significant work in developing an open-source flight software that's supposed to be a pretty big deal. The ball has been in motion for a few years now, and I think bringing Johns in is an attempt to move even further in that direction. It's clear that Redcat wants to compete with the big guys, and I think they're taking the right steps toward that goal.

Didn't axial flounder under this guys leadership? Have we forgotten that not to long ago parts ran dry.

This is an outside-the-box revelation that will no doubt resonate as an amazing game changer! (there...I won at buzz word bingo).

Ditchrat's usual cynicism illuminates the elephant in the room (bonus bingo point). If I owned a company I doubt I'd be proclaiming loudly and proudly that Eddie Lampert was my new CEO. A little different since Axial isn't technically failing or bankrupt, but it certainly hasn't been making epic strides in gaining market share and reinforcing consumer confidence.

Redcat appears to have shown commendable progress in becoming a real player rather than a sourced retailer, hopefully this won't be a reversal.

Just sayin'...if quality, innovation and brand loyalty were my goal, Axial would not have been my business model choice to aspire to.

Well he wasn't in control of HobbiCo which is what ultimately failed. I think 2mtech made a wise statement about it not necessarily being a good thing to be associated with Axial for the quality or lack thereof.

My understanding is that he was one of the founders, so while it may have floundered after hobbico purchased them, he also would have been one of the people responsible for making it "The" name in r/c crawling for a number of years.

Either way, having him on board at redcat will prove whether or not he was the one that knows what he's doing in the r/c industry.

Let none of us confused good business sense with RC innovation and execution. They are two very different things and most likely, both can not be controlled or blamed on one specific man when talking about companies of this magnitude (axial or redcat). The same man who is responsible for building the axial brand from the ground up, may not necessarily be the guy who has any technical knowledge of the product at all. Same goes the other direction. I don't know the man, nor his history, I'm speaking on a general sense.
