It will never be done. :)

Little bit of progress. This is a knuckle for the rear. The fronts will be slightly different to support a weight holder.

I cut this chassis before nationals last year, but didn't have enough time to install it until last week. The new chassis is carbon fiber and allows for axle mounted shocks. It still needs some tuning and clean up the wiring/battery location, but it seems to feel more predictable than the previous chassis that had the shocks mounted to the lower links.

I put Axial bent rods on top and bottom of the shocks to keep them from binding. I had never done the 'rod end shock cap mod' to my shocks before and it was so simple, I can't believe I haven't tried it yet. Only took about 20 minutes to complete the set of 4.

Are they glued or do the rings hold like a bead lock against the standoffs
Your wheels are sick!!!!

Some updates while prepping for Nationals...

First up is some new (much lighter) wheels and tires. Picked the Rovers up from Krawlfreak and designed some wheels for the standard 40 series size.

Wheel vendors might find these interesting, as the complete set of 4 wheels was cut from a sheet of 3" x 12" x 1/8" and a sheet of 12" x 12" x 1/16". So about $75 worth of Carbon Fiber for a set of Super wheels .

Also picked up a Dlux servo strengthener. Took some adjusting to fit in the Bully, but finally got it to work. Just have to cut down the large gear to get it out of the way of the shock. I had to redesign and cut a new set of servo mounts to push the strengthener plate away from the upper link mount. Moved it over about an 1/8". Then had to countersink the shock mounting screw hole since the button head was in the way of the servo.

Very cool Sven! Are the rings multiple pieces? It looks like they are split (about 2 o'clock in the first pic)...

Thanks Manu. Yeah, it shouldn't be too hard. Aluminum fasteners would help take some weight off as well.

Thanks Jeremy. Yes, each ring is in two pieces. They are put together so that each side of the wheel the ring pieces are offset from each other (not on the same standoffs). The glue will also keep them in place.

Will do

Not yet . Kinda blew my r/c budget getting ready for nationals. It is the first thing in my wish list though.

3 of the 8 outer sections separated, but it really didn't affect the performance since they were still glued to the tires.

I will not be doing any more 2 piece outer rings though. The center section with the hexes held up great and I will likely make some more wheels using that design.

Sounds good, you get the steering issue worked out?
