Default Winks Super Juice V3 lightweight build

About a year ago I bought a Super Bully Beetle Juice roller from Hoppa. I modified it to suit my driving style. I have been having a blast driving it but my biggest complaint is the Bully axle shafts. I had two axle shafts break on the truck at ACC. Three legging it on the finals course right after the start was my breaking point. So it is time for a change and I thought I would share the rebuild with you all and hope for some pointers on my way.

Pics as of right now.

The main change is these:

Since I spent so much money on the axles and motors I will have to wait a while for new wheels. I am running the tech 5 wheels and they are 17mm hex wheels. I have the 17mm adapters for the berg axles but think the track width is too narrow. After looking at the blast wheels using the VP hubs I looked at how I might be able to modify the tech 5 wheels in a similar way.

Before:

After:

With VP hub:

I used a dremel to open up the hex for the VP hub. The centering ring on the front of the hub fits perfectly in the tech5 wheel.

Wow those axles look tasty. Can't wait to see you build this up.

Nice work Ryan!

You drove pretty damn well in 3WD on that finals course!

Thanks guys. It was hard to tear the truck apart since it worked so damn well but its time.

I got the wheels all dremeled out. Just need to get more hardware to bolt up the VP hubs. Oh and I need more 12mm hexes for the Super 300's. I forgot about that part. I guess I will be making another parts order this week.

Thats what 4's will do to a bully. It snaps pins, so lets see if the berg can hold up on ur driving.

Baller.......
The one advantage to the RC3WD axles is you can buy cvd's.

Congrats on your rebuild.

Thats funny right there. You are a more agressive driver than I. It wasnt breaking pins, it was breaking axle shafts at the ball end.

Do you feel that the 300's are a better shaft then? I know they are out of a better material but wondering if you have anything to base the strength on?

Just from browsing around in the 2.2's, it seemed there were a small percentage breaking 300's but it seemed an even smaller percentage breaking the Bully shafts. Thats about as scientific as I got. I am guessing there are more 300's out there though so it may be a wash.

Taking calipers to both shafts I found that they are VERY similar in almost all directions, the Bully being a touch bigger in all those directions but not by much. I just cut some more Bully shafts and the material is not very hard. I have not cut 300's so I dont know how hard they are but the way they wear, they dont seem crazy hard to me.

I think there could be a steel inconsistency from older cvds. I've seen mixed results in the past. 4s is probably a big part of the breakage. Krawl had trouble keeping berg gears as I recall on 4s

Very cool Ryan! You will be very happy with the super berg axles they are very stout.

IMO The problem with the Superbully shafts is all quality control. Some last forever while others break right out of a start gate at national qualifier finals course. (Felt your pain). The Super 300's have much better QC on them. Those axles have very little time on them also.

yes and yes. they are stronger.

don't you remember CTM with his 300m "drive home shafts" they were named that for a reason.

the shafts that have broken in 2.2's were all done with the steering being pushed past the limit and causing a severe bind in the shaft causing breakage.

i was actually breaking the pins in the 300's causing severe damamge to the barrel and pin pockets in the shafts.

the hardened pins have cured that problem all together.

I only ever broke one shaft.....snapped the ball end off. Ask Casey (almighty) about his experiences with the RC4WD shafts....

I have the berg axles under the truck now and was able to use the existing links for a great starting point. I am seriously considering removing the BRXL's from their cases but I need to find some clear shrink wrap for them. Anyone have a link to some?

I saved about .5 pounds per axle just switching to the bergs so the truck is 1 pound lighter now. Thinkimg about moving everything out of the chassis and onto the front axle.
