Default Klampyz 1/8 F350

maybe.....

initial adjustments.

inboarded LCA

leant shocks back one.

shortened the wheelbase.

then stripped a gear.

new wiring plan

shaved and ready for new gears.

decided to fit up my 2.2s.

just a tad small...

double wiring to the motor? overkill??

this has actually been reduced....

Can you get metal gears for this?

honestly not sure. But would also like to know.

As far as im aware, no. But they are very similar to tamiya inside... certainly makes me wonder.

i found a complete parts list for this model truck, and according to the HSP hopup list, theres no metal gears optioned for it. which is pretty sad really...

not even metal axle housings or gearbox housings... just some cheap "carbon look" options. and i couldnt even find them on ebay (where all the parts are...)

now that i have a parts list, theres a couple bits that id like to upgrade to aloy, like the link mouts on the axle, upper and lower, the servo mounts, and potentially a set of alloy beadlock rings. (the 2.2s i think are way too small)

for now ill leave it as is, as im still waiting for the bits i need to get it back to a driveable state...

When I was researching for a crawler to mod all to heck, I considered a Max Stone (same thing) and the Redcat. It was the metal gears that made my choice of a Mad Torque.

I really liked the tubes, knuckles, etc. on the Max, so I combined them with Mad transmissions.

If you want to put some real power to this thing, you could do a reverse of my conversion... and throw 60* steering in for good measure. The Mad trans has proven to be very stout... you'd have a brute when you finished.

its set. gonna turn it into a scaler. (attempted due to MOA...)

needs to get the narrower axle section for it to bring the wheels under the guards.

got flex? of course, this will be lessened when the ladder chassis goes under it.

I'm trying to learn how crawlers react to subtle changes in suspension geometry (if at all), so I like having all the adjustability possible. There's a lot to learn.

If you go to 2 short tubes, you will drop 30mm in width. This rig has potential for a good looking, fun build.

What are the replacement plastic gears going to cost you?

plastic gear has already cost (past tense) me $13AUD. > eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

115-75 is 40mm, but still.. that will be perfect i reckon. will still give a bit of tire poke, but also, narrow enough to not look like it should be a Foff truck... or maybe it should be??? lol.. nah...

so probly ordering the new half tubes and shafts tomorrow, along with a couple of the cheap-as-chips turnigy 2s lipos from HobbyKing. $7.90 each!! omg...

You're right. When cut for the Mad/Max, they are 30mm different.

And... OUCH! For $10 here, we can buy all 5 metal gears for the Mads.

Madtorque Spare Parts

For $8 more, you can have a gearbox and a locker... and you've got a trans.

Gearset for the Max/HSP: http://www.nitrorcx.com/51c00-98088.html

Is Oz typically so expensive for RCers?

When you have it apart next, pls measure the diameter and flat-to-flat thickness of the gear end of the axle shafts? TIA

would you happen to know if these axles fit my steering hubs? Axles

would make fitting the 2.2s a heap easier...

edit: more importantly, if they fit the 1/8 driveshaft dogbones.

i have a radio Q for anyone who can answer, if i have a turnigy 8ch heli type RX/TX and im using an ESC per stick, can i make the left stick power both ESCs forward, but then if i want to dig the rear axle/ESC can i use the right stick to pull back and create a braking/drag effect? effectively, putting the rear ESC in neutral.(ie max drag)

???

now i have an issue.

the short side protrudes into the housing where the long side is flush.

so putting two that protrude ends up like this >>

so. the whole reason for wanting to narrow the axle was to bring the tires under the guards coz imo, theyre too small to be hanging right out there.

instead, ill go back to the 40series rims. and throw some big tires on there. for now ill stick with the stockers, but would like to upgrade to something scale and cant decide which ones i like more.

X-locks: least scale, but still better than stock, and the cheapest out of the lot.

rock crushers: are probably too narrow to fit my wide rims but are my favourite looking ones.

slingers: are the most likely to fit, but my least favourite design

Baja Claws: most expensive, but probably the most awesome of the bunch.

and, i dont really want to spend $90 plus post on tires... :/

Those are 2mm smaller dia, inner sleeves for the bearings would be needed. I have no idea if the dogbones would fit... the Mad stuff is pretty small, and is another reason I went for the M/M conversion.
