The build continues...

Picked up the following...
Spektrum DX4S - 4 channel uber controller.
4x Rok Lox 40 Series Comp Tires & Stock Axial 8 spoke flat black bead lock rims

On order...
2 - 35T RC4WD Motors
2 - 45T RC4WD Motors
(not sure which I wanted and it will be ultimately cheaper if I just get both now)
1 - Hitec HS-7980TH (4 wheel steering here I come)
1 - Electronic DIG
- The Frankenstein Chassi kit from RC4WD which will replace the temporay mess that is holding my axles in place currently.

It Begins

I wanted to keep a Stock set of the Rok Lox 40's for fun and messing around, so when I saw my local shop had a set and matching rims in stock when I was picking up my new radio I grabbed them and cut them down.

Stock...

and point of no return

...and the rims Stock

I tried to chop them down via a tutorial I found on youtube. Useing a carpet knife like this.

But it didn't work for shit so I tried this

Which works well for the record

Stage 1 cut off inside bead lock.

Stage 2 cut off 1.5" (38mm) of meat

I tried to clean the cuts up with my dremel

But that didn't work for shit. So I went back to the carpet knife and the plastic burrs came off like butter! Super easy.

And the foams

And then my phone died because I forgot to charge it.

I've actually finished gluing the tires, JB welding the rims, and V notching the foams. they look great and I will have pictures of the finnished products shortly. It was a whole lot easier than I expected really.

When my new parts come in I will take more shots.

I like it, I'm curious why you narrowed your tires though?

It's an easy way to get rid of a bunch of weight. Beyond that I'll do a before and after shot when I get it all together this weekend and you'll see the other benefits.

Done! ...for now, maybe

Here are the tires side by side for a comparison. No more rubbing on the shocks and turning has improved.

Re built the front links because they weren't long enough and I hated the Delrin lower links.

Here's how to do it at home kids!

First make a simple jig to hold your axles in place at the correct spacing. in my case I went just short of the max 18" for supers

Any old junk will do for the frame provided it's square when you're finished. I used some spare aluminum door threshold angle that I had. I pop riveted it together and Derp!

Then measure how long you need your new links to be with a sting or wire.

You will need...

Or if you can find all thread use that (I couldn't)

Cut the heads off the 1" 8-32's with a dremel

Tap the tube to 8-32

Start the tap on the Traxxas Revo ends to make your life easy

...and Derp! your links are done.

Super easy!

I've replaced the RC4WD rear upper link ends with Traxxas 1942 ends. The RC4WD Delrin rear bottom link ends have been replaced by the REVO link ends. The Traxxas ends have a nice glide to them and I like the way they fit on the links & mounting points. Then the boring part of thread locking and screwing shit together.

Then a test crawl up & down 3 flights of stairs and shit!

Front servo side plastic rips off of the servo. It is currently sitting waiting for the JB weld to set up.

I'm currently waiting to hear back too see if I can get a set of these...

Crawl-Spec Super Bully and Berg servo mounts

More to come.

Have you thought about going with a lipo battery mounted to the axle? I just bought some new super bully axles for a super build and I plan on doing mine similar to yours

I will be getting some Lipos before the spring and making an axle mount. Derp will run off of either. I figured it would be nice to still be able to use my Nimhs. Why waste em', more power for the days when my wife is rock and fossil hunting and I'm just bashing around

I'm told the mounts are in the mail.

I think I'm going to start building a mutant-tank-thing out of my spare parts.
