Ted's Lightweight Super Juice

Hey guys. So after running my super bully 65:1 with BWD wedge chassis all last season I decided to change it up for the new season. My old setup was in the 9 pound range.


New for the 2012/2013 season. Specs:

*Chassis: Y-town CF Super Juice.

*Links: Titanium custom links from my buddy Marc AKA "moes670".

*Gearbox: Berg V1 with drilled stock gears, (Thanks JB), RC Bros lockers, Mann 2nd gears, and CKRC 3rd gears for now untill John's stock of SDS 3rds are availible. Dlux case cover. Dlux adjustable upper link mount. And case milled by Dlux. (thanks Erik).

*Tubes: Dlux delrin custom offeset tubes with D-lux lower link mounts and Dlux servo mounts. Axial AX10 C-hubs with Bully machined knuckles.

*Axle shafts: Bully XVD axle shafts modified in length and at the locker to fit this setup with berg cases. (These will be replaced with either VP shafts or SDS shafts soon I hope).

*Shocks: 4" Big Bores lathed down by Dlux, Mini-T red springs all around, JeepinDoug spring cups, 27.5 oil all around.

*Wheels/tires/foams: Blast wheels 1" shaved down, open cell nova 7.5" dual stage foams, 8" rovers with moab sidewalls.

*Knuckle weights holders: Made by Sven to hold VP slugs.

*Electronics:
1. Motors: Team Brood Vapor (lightweigth motors). 45t HHK arms, epoxy balanced, ground, polished, and dyed. lathed cans, lightweight endbell mods, ceramic bearings, team brushes and springs. (I also have new 45t GT arms with "the works" that I can try in these cans).

2. Servos: One Hitec 7980 on each axle.

3. ESC's: Dual Tekin FXR's decased and wired/shrunk down with a pair of CC bec's in there as well. Mounted on Rowdy tray. (I had fun with this).

4. RX: Nomadio 4ch reciever that is way too large.

5. Battery: Sky lipo 3S 800mah. Mounted on homemade mount.

That is the basically all of it I think. It was a fun and stressfull build. I am pretty happy with it. It is done for the moment and ready for the comp in two days. I ran two packs thru it and it works well. Future plans are to get new axle shafts/knuckles, CF wheels, aluminum hollow rod balls when they come in stock, and some more titanium hardware to replace the little bit of steel that is left.

RTR weight with 12oz total of knuckle weight is: 6.36 pounds.

Dual FXR's, Two BEC's, One larger capacitor. Decased and consolidated by myself. They seem to be working fine. And I can still field program them if needed.

It is awsome the amount of great products that are availble to us. Got the pics loaded on page 2 & 3. There have been alot of great super builds lately and I couldnt wait to get this finished.

However, you are going to HATE that servo horn sticking up there like that. It will get hung up on any undercut you push the truck up against. Why not rotate the servo 90* and let it sit between the motor and tube?

Does the upper link mount contact the ground before the servo horn? That is the only thing I could see being a problem.

Why the desire to get rid of the knuckles and shafts?

I would also throw another screw in those shock mounts. You really need 2 screws as close to the link/shock mounting points as possible. The way you have it now, it will allow the mount to flex up just a touch and could possibly break next to the screw you have on top. If there are screws as close to the mounting points as possible, it does not allow the mount to flex at all. Hopefully that makes sense.

That was the original plan, and it still may happen. First I need to get ahold of the jig and mod the case to move the motor up and back. Then I will know how much room I have and if I can notch the tube enough to fit it in there. Time was short and this was my remedy. I will have to deal with it for now.

Yes, the upper link mount will contact the ground before the servo horn.

The bully knuckels and shafts are alright, I am just not a huge fan of them after all the greif I have had dealing with them on the super bully. But they are cheap and availible. So far they have been fine on this build and the AX10 c-hubs make a huge differance so time will tell. With the new VP shafts having 50* and being availible it will be hard not to go that route as long as they can make me a long blank shaft I can modify.

I have two screws in the shock mounts already, but now that the upper shock mount part is lopped off I sure can and will get another fastner in there on the top next to the mount.

Pretty much, although it is spaced just above the mount and mounts into the tube.

What grief? Breakage? I was concerned after I built mine and people started talking about breaking shafts. There are 6 or so rigs in 801 running Bully shafts and I am yet to see one break. I think being 6.5lbs will really help things out too.

Oh, and keep an eye on those upper link mount screws. They take a serious amount of abuse on roll overs which is awesome for the rest of your components, but after a couple rollovers they can become a touch loose. I throw a bit of super glue on my threads and that seems to help.

Before I took the dremel to it 7g. After....Didn't stop to weight it.

I have been watching your build. You and Crash are doing some nice work to those bully axles. I still have my old set.

I was unlucky and broke alot of stuff.

But, most of that should not be an issue with the new truck with the AX10 C hubs, and l like you said the low weight. It is a great conversion and option, actualy The only option at this time right now. Nobody else has shafts availabe that will fit a super right now.


I dont remember where I was at with the bully for track width? But with this setup I am 14 1/8" sidewall to sidewall.

I am heavy handed and stripped out one hole already. I had to move the mount over to a new set. I realy like how adjustable your mounts are, very cool design. I will have to order a couple spare "blocks".
