Default THE CORPORAL II Clawing it's way back!

Well step one of the return of the Corporal has arrived.

Mr. Brett Crawford of CPE was nice enough to sell me the last of the prototype Claw chassis! I am now the prowd owner of Claw chassis #4! Thanks Brett!

It has been certified and the chassis is even signed!

Can't wait for my axles to arrive! Then the fun will really begin. Until then enjoy!

Well it is EXTREMLY light! I think the entire chassis, links, spring, body mounts, and hardware only weigh 12 1/2 oz. This will be a light Super Class Crawler.

Event though this is a "prototype" chassis, the fit and finish is very good.

I'm going to replace the links w/ my own Carbon Fiber links. Nothing wrong w/ the stock links, I just like Carbon Fiber!

The Chassis is designed to run stick packs on the chassis, but I'm going to run the battery on the axle like I did on the NN.

Brett stated that they added weight to the tires to help w/ wheel hop, so I think the battery being mounted on the axle brace will help.

Over all I'm very impressed w/ the chassis and can't wait to get it on the rocks!

maybe instead of calling it the corporal you could give it the promotion it deserves and call it the sergeant.

I believe it is a mod'ed strip of spring Steel. It take the place of the upper link and the shocks. The only thing I can think of being a problem with that set up would be extreme side hilling, but I maybe wrong.

Well the Corporal II build is slowly coming along. Funds are tight as I'm going to Cali. for a month at the end of July and my son wants to go to Disneyland.

Anyways, got a set of axles off the bay. Received them today and man, they must have sat in the guys garage for a few years! The dust was about 1/16 of an inch deep!

It's obvious that they were on a Clod Racer of some sort looking at the hardware that was used. The links weighed about 12 oz.'s EACH and were a pretty hack job! So those went bye bye !

They did have aluminum knuckles front and rear and carbon fiber axle braces, so that was cool.

I opened one of the axles up and checked the bearings, gears and such. Diffs were open so I locked it up w/ my favorite SHOE GOO!

All the bearings were cleaned and lubed and the CRUD was removed from the gears. They were then cleaned, re-lubed (w/ some 3 in 1 oil that I use on everything), and reassembled.

Replaced all the hardware w/ M3 Stainless hexes, started on the BTA steering set up ,and did a little modding to the axle to help increase the steering throw.

I'll have more pics up tomorrow, so for now here they are in all their filth!

I still don't understand how that chassie doesn't have crazy axle rap

Despite the crud those axles look sweet! Gotta love aluminum knuckles, if you're still looking for some wheels I have a pair of 40 series outbacks (they'll bolt right up) if you're interested.
