Default another newb tube

Well, only having taken out the stick 2 times now and braking an axle and a servo mount, im still unsatisfied. SOOOO im going to attempt to build a tube chassi. I just want the gratification of doing it myself, and not using somone else's masterpiece. Some of you may have seen me on here latley, I really have no idea what im doing but ill git-r-dun. I went out and got about 12' of tube today, a dremmal, and a oxy/map torch kit.

Im using an awkward start, but im happy with it. the first cut and bent piece on my rig is going to be the typical CJ5/7 style front grill. Also ive decieded to make it a budlight themed build, using nothing but my empty bottles as jigs. I might throw in some BL logo's here and there we'll see. This will be my first time brazing as well so you all will see a "learning curve" im sure. Anyway stay tuned for some pics in the next day or too!

Sounds like an interesting build, remember bend and cut before you consume whats in the bottles. If you dont what looks good now may not look good when you wake up.

I would also recommend Buying a body, if you dont have one, to help give you a rough idea of shapes before you go hacking and burning. It makes it a heck of a lot easier. Just my .02

waiting to order a new servo mount.. it was loose or somthing when I got it and it broke the ears off of the servo itself. So I probably need a new servo as well. But im not getting rid of it.

well its too late now that ive used it, but cant you just burn the mapp gas if you want and leave the oxygen off? ive noticed that with the O2 on its really hot, for welding and cutting but is that too much?

Default not a virgin no more...

Well after work today i spent about an hour playing around on the torches, and let me tell ya I have a new found respect for the guys that do these things. The amount of time and effort it takes to do these things seems like a lot to me. Although im new at it, I still think its a very time consuming process.
ANYWAY here is what I came up with tonight. Not a finished piece but tacked together at least so I can visualize where I want to go from here.

Obviously I have some squaring and trimming and soldering to do still, but it is actually pretty strong just the way it is. i plan to angle the fenders in to the grill and smooth all the solder off, but its dark now and the wife wont let me do it in the house lol. so maybe more tomarrow night. I dont want to rush the process anyway.

its just a silver solder, but the side your probably talking about is one i F'ed up on. I had to melt the solder off, and then I dont think i cleaned it up enough to get it to stick good. but I am having trouble getting it to stick to the tubing, or flow for that matter.

well my brazing limits and time restraints have led me to let my partner in crime start the bending and welding. check out this bender he has made for the tube, pretty cool!

Really simple idea, might be overkill but I think it will help with making uniform bends.

That bender thing is a damn good idea, if you have 2 rachets and sockets to waste, and don't have just a bar to wrap it around

Cheers 8-)
