| New Comp Style Crawler
Well after playing with TLT-420 for awhile I decided to build another. Seeing all the hardcore crawlers here has gotten me thinking. The basic things I'll be shooting for will be: 1. Low Weight. 2. Ground Clearance. 3. Low Center of Gravity. 1. To keep the weight as low as possible I'm ditching the Pede trans in favor of a smaller & lighter AE Stealth trans. I also have a outrunner brushless motor & Mamba-25 controller that is lss than half the weight of the lathe & SR. This combined with the AE trans will help both lighten & lower the COG 2. To get more ground clearance I looked to Plays_With_Toys idea for high clearance links. They are all mouted on the same axis point on the chassis. the lower links are now triangulated at the chassis & uppers are kinda straight. They are mounted to the axle vertically in the old link mount bracket holes, with a stand off to brace it. 3. To keep the COG low see #1 More to come........... |

I wanted something shinny so I went with these. I know most of you don't like chrome, but I wanted some "BLING", but this ain't no pu$$yfoot. Took the dremel to it to shave down the pumpkins Here's some pics of the trannys I have left-AE; middle-Traxxas something?; right-Pede As you can see from right to left, it gets smaller & lighter. So I am going to use the AE stealth in the final design. Here is a pic af the trans with the BL mounted Small, light, & compact |

Are you going to use dogbones? Btw, I have the same tranny. For locking the transmission, lets see if I can remebr how it is... Ok, get the tranny off, open the tranny up. Their is a screw inside where the dogbone goes, undue that. Take the diff apart. You'll have to grind down both sides. (so a piece of tubing can block the diff from moving). Well yah, thats how ya do it. I'll post another thing about making dogbones. Oh yeah, I doubt you'll be able to use sliders. I couldnt think of any way u could. |

Dogbones: Info on how I made my dogbones, if yall ever need to. Sorry for the poor quality pics of the dogbones, my camera doesn't like close ups. As you can see, one of the dogbones has tubing in the middle, and it brazed togethter at the end of the tubing. I just drilled a hole on each side of the tubing, and cut my dogbones in half. I then filed down the amount that I needed to make it fit, and brazed it togetther. The other dogbone was made from 1/8th solid rod, and a drill bit. I made the rod the lenght I needed it. I then cut two holes at the ends (horizontal) , and cut my drillbit in half. I made sure the drill bit wasn't to big or to small, and I brazed it togethter. Oh yeah, You had a pretty sweet crawler before. That thing looked sweet. You ganna use the moabs or all-ts for this one? |

| Axles & Chassis
On my first crawler(TLT-420), the axle housing broke at the point where the knuckle ear is. So to strenthen it up I got some of these Very strong bracing now but with a little more under hang. I'll see how this effects it on its maiden voyage. Got the axles built & chassis cut out. Along with those braces, I used GPM steering knuckles, full bearings, Integy MSR5 piggybacks, mg645 servos front & rear, & Traxxas 116mm turnbuckles (#5139) for the drag link & all 8 suspention links. The chassis is made out of 1/8 AL sheet. Dementions top lenth- 5 1/4" bottom lenth- 2" hight- 2 1/4" Here with the crossbraces, body mounts, & shock mounts. It is 2" wide & only weighs 3 ounces Last edited by DISTURBIN' tha PEACE; 09-06-2005 at 04:13 AM. |

| Out-drives & Yokes
OK...got some actual progress done tonight. Drilled out the out-drives & yokes. For the out-drives I used a 3/16 bit to widen the gap in the dog-bone slot all the way through & a 1/8 bit on one side only so the pin could go all the way through. For the yokes I used a 3/8 bit & drilled out the yokes all the way through. Now on to mock-up so I can fab some trans mounts Hope y'all like it so far |

looks good so far, but i have a bad feeling about those outdrives and pinion yokes. the outdrives would be stronger if you drilled the holes 90* to the slots. cut the ends of the pinion yokes down so you can slide the Maxx yoke all the way onto it and use a screw going thru the Maxx yoke, threading into the TLT yoke. does that make sense? i can post a pic when my camera recharges. that brushless motor doesn't look like much but it's got enough torque to shred a 5mm shaft. that chassis looks sweet. |

| Mock-up
Yeah, I'm not to sure bout the shafts too. The angle is kinda steep, soit binds on the pinion drive cup. Do you mean to cut/grind the drive cup so it doesn't stick out the inside of the yoke & both the pin holes line up to the pinion output shaft? Please post pics. I think I might do that. It'll help reduce the shaft angle a little. The out-drive side I'm not too concerned about cuz I'm looking for a spool or locker for it. I've heard someone makes it for the stealth. If anybody knows, hook me up. Got some mock-up shots. 1st-side 2nd-top 3rd-front Also had this HPI Jeep body laying around. I origanally thought it was too big, but I cut it out & trimmed the fenders. Now it looks just right. Plus if your gonna get serious ya gotta get a Jeep, right? Sorry, the wheels arn't srewed down.......LOL |

Opps, fogot this one. My first TLT chassis on the left & new design on the right As you can see its much narrower & maybe 3/4" shorter. Shoud come in about 11 1/2 to 11 3/4". That's 'nuff for today. Thanks for looking. |

the tranny you are using looks identical to a bycmo one except it got outdrive shafts instead of cups , deagostini did a weekly magazine where u built a subaru rally car made by bycmo shame it,s only any good on tarmac. the trans is very small and the diff is similer to a ped one, am tempted to see if they still got back issues for a tranny

Fixed the maxx yokes as per microgoat's suggestion. Shouldn't have anymore binding issues now that the drive-cup is gone. Also a little better shaft angle now that the yoke is set further back All that's left is to fab some trans mounts & lock this damn ball diff. So on to the fabbing....................................
