cole as much as i hate too i have to agree with kamikaze its not a tuber. none of us in mwrca would argue if you wanna run it as one but if you go to moab you know their gonna say its not a tuber and move you into another class. i dont know what class it falls into and i dont really care but im trying to prepare you for what everyone is gonna say. personally there should be 2 classes for tlts scale and not scale. and the chassis looks awesome and i cant wait to lose to it(hey i know its gonna happen why sugarcoat?) good job!

I love this rig> If you do not mind, can I ask what it cost for this buildup???? Are you willing to put up some plans for the the chassis etc???? I know it might sound dumb but the winters here in ND are kinda long and I have DP out in the garage doing nothing. I am not much into brazing or welding brake line together and this looks like just the ticket.

The chassis performs great. The dimonds don't catch as mentioned they are rounded so it slides easally around the rocks. The bottum is cutting board and that's where it counts most.
The screws on the side that holds the links and skid do catch. They will get counter sunk at some point.
No I'm kicking myself for not makeing a template when it was in one big flat piece. I'll take some measurments and see if I can get a close template.
As far as cost it was about $20.00 in stainless steel hardware and link material. The dimond tread I got for free at work. The cutting board you can get from the $1. store

guys, please leave the rules crap out of this thread. This is a buildup thread which is in the Tech section. Since it isn't a tuber, it has to run a body...

Cole, I would be real interested in some plans for the chassis and other parts. Such as things needed to do what you did. I might do something different for axles but it all depends on what I can get.

That is a very interesting idea. Definitely thinking outside the proverbial box. That would be much simpler to fabricate than a tube chassis. Structurally just as sound, if not stiffer than tubes. Probably lighter too. It would be really good looking if it were plain plate vs. the diamond IMO.
What's most interesting is the rules debate it has started. The design principles are very similar to a tube chassis, but approached in an entirely different manner.
Hopefully creativity and innovation will not be stifled for the sake of adhering to rules.
Mabey it's time for a "hand-fabricated" chassis class. This chassis is so similar to a tube chassis, but the purists will say it's not made of tubes. It would be a shame to be required to put a body on this thing to make it fit into a class to compete, it just looks too cool the way it is...

Kinda reminds me of the Thunder Tech CF chassis, and it's aluminum cage. Nice job getting all the bends in place and combining all the sides into one flat sheet, that must have taken some head-scratching. Who cares what class it winds up in, if it's a good design which it appears to be, it should do well in either...

I don't know I've never put the two side by side. I also don't have any RR.

Ya others say they work good with a heavy truck. I might add A LOT of BB's/weight to get them to work

those tires are hard, but if you cut some rubber off of the side lugs, they flex a little better.

Yep this is that very first one I got from you. It's scratched to hell and the bearing are shot. They are squelling like a pig.
I'm waiting to get one of those newer big ones or the novak crawler system.
I want a little more speed.

A band saw for most of it. Then the windows I used a scroll saw.
