Default Great Idea

I have been looking at TLT's trying to find an idea for my first build,I always like to be different. This is a very"simple" design,I think I might give this a shot.Looks like I'll be spending money, hello McMaster, can I get,,,,,,,

Yep. there magic batteries. J/K

I'm trying to find the specs on those for you, but I can't find the thread right now.
They are Lithium Ions out of a Drill.
I get about an hour to hour and half run times out of them.
Bunch of the So Cal guys use them.
I'll try and find the specs.

Okay, I finally got in a few hours in on this thing over at Brians from RCP.
Results are okay.
First off I started out with way too much weight in the tires.
I was popping axles off the yokes left and right.
I don't know what I was thinking putting soo much weight in them.
It was pretty funny all four tires weighed as much as the rest of the truck.
They all started cracking jokes about my heavy tires.
So after fixing the shaft about 5 times, I took all the weight out and listened Brian's advice and started in the other direction. Start light then add weight.
It wheeled a little bit better, actually much better, but I was not amazed.
I think the battery plate was restricting alot of the flex, so I plan to lose that, and I'll try and get the batteries on the frnt axle. Or Maybe on each side of the trans.
Some of you guys wanted a report on the tires. The RR on round river rock kinda suck, good thing our last two comps in our series, are at "The Spot" which is like sandpaper. So they should hook up there.
I guess I just have to dial it in and drive it more.
I know its not a BMVII but for what it is it's fun.

Any suggestion on this thing is much appreciated
I have a comp on Sunday and I gotta drive this rig.

Ohh yea the best part of the day was seeing the TLT CVD's in action ...

What exactly were it's shortcomings?

For tire weight, I run about 5 oz's in my front tires and 3 oz's in my rears.

I mounted my battery in the same location, but w/o the plate. I just use a Velcro strap.

Mine crawled extremely well of the man made course and I was very pleased w/ it's performance.

Did your rear axle and yoke get hung up alot? If so perhaps a wedge similar to mine would help.

And I'm not sure what kind of voltage those cells but out? I like to run a 8 cell 9.6 volt battery to have a little reserve of power which is sometimes needed.

Throw a set of Mashers on it, that would help as well, the RR and smooth rocks are a bad combination.

keep experimenting with weight... especially with the red rocks. You've got to find the sweet spot with them. They should do just fine at the spot though, I know mine did

Seemed to want to flip over backwards alot. Should I place the cells over the front axle or 1 on ea. side of the R2 down low?

Also the battery specs are:

Cell Type - IMR26700 Manganese
Size - 26.4mm diameter; 70mm length
Weight - 100g (3.512 oz.)
Capacity - 3000mAh
Standard Operating Voltage - 4.2V
Energy Density - 285Wh/l
Power Density - 1500W/kg at 20 seconds

Try them on the front axle, also, weight is placment and amount goes along way w/ this chassis.

mine is working pretty well at the moment, more testing this weekend!

Were can I get a few of those cells?
