Pretty slick set up there diesel. Are you still leaning towards link mounted shocks?

dieselfuel 09-19-2007 09:14 PM

not really sure yet. could run a normal 4" shock but it'd be laid down quite a bit. i'd have to limit them a lot.

Tanis 09-19-2007 09:39 PM

That is where I had my servo mounted on my 2.2 TXT. Worked out really well, as low as you can go, basicly. Your mount looks better made than my homemade jobby."thumbsup"

dieselfuel 09-20-2007 09:32 AM

Well last night i got the upper links done (thanks frankyrizzo) and mounted. Now i can start on shock setup. At ride height its 3" from upper shock mount to lower shock mount. So i could run a 4" shock, if it were heavily limited.. Ill throw together some mockups tonight and see what i need to do.

well im pretty sure ive figured out the shocks... on the 2.2 blackjacks we run 3.5" shocks with some internal limiting, on this im running 4" Ti nitride maxx shocks with a lot of internal limiting. 11/16" of fuel tubing inside the the shack actually. not positive about the springs yet as these were just something i had laying around. if it looks like the shocks are tilting outward at the top, they are. i wasnt sure about it when i first bolted everything up but it actually travels very smoothly, im really happy with it.

pics. let me know what you think.

oh and thats my brother ****in around in the background in that one pic.

Tanis 09-21-2007 11:56 PM

The shocks aren't laid down too much, they look good mounted like that.

dieselfuel 09-22-2007 12:31 AM

Man im totally stoked about this rig!! The suspension is sooo smooth! I showed frankyrizzo and its now got the official sin city stamp of approval.

Looks good Scott"thumbsup"
I hope to start a 14'r build someday soon.

dieselfuel 09-22-2007 02:23 AM

thanks man, its kind of a shame that its now just a pile of parts... i had to rebuild my 2.2 blackjack for tomorrow's comp/GTG so the 14er had to give up its chassis and transmission. here pretty soon ill have a new blackjack chassis for the 14er to base off of.

I can see where the Badlands prolly wouldn't be the tire to have in Moab. Mine work great here in CO but I don't think the rubber is the best for the degrading slickrock at Potatoe Salad hill.

i bolted up rizzo's set of badlands on HPI maxx wheels and mine came in at 12 15/16" wide "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

All this time I thought the 14er's were referring to wheel base, now that i see that pic EP posted it looks like you're talking track width. Did I miss something?

it is referring to wheelbase... track width has nothing to do with it.

metomwhou 09-28-2007 02:06 AM

Thats good to know, I'm planning on tearing into the TXT I bought last year and going the 14er route myself. Thanks for clearing that up.

6" tires are kindly the norm ain't they?

My Twin 14er is running a width of 12.625" (outside tire to outside of tire)
This is running 2 short side twin axles and double narrowed maxx mashers.

JeremyH 09-28-2007 04:18 PM

You might want to think about adding the RC4WD upper link mount brace.

pics of the progress. its now being built on a k2-3s that i had laying around. i just love them reign products.

making this motor fit into the transmission was some work! after about 30min of filing and sanding i got it to fit with a 16 tooth pinion. the clearance between the motor and the trans case is 17 ten thousandths of an inch. thats .0017" just over one and a half thousandths of an inch... this is the first time ive ever used a set of feeler gauges on an rc car.

dieselfuel 10-05-2007 01:57 PM

I got the material to make my upper links. 5/32" solid steel rod sleeved with 8mm OD stainless steel tubing, capped off with revo ends. Ill be building them tonight.

crawl rookie 10-06-2007 12:27 AM

looks great!
but i think the blackjack just looks better on it;-)

What bl motor is that? do you have some specs?

Get on with it and finish the damn thing!!"thumbsup"
