the axle shift for mine comes from the upper links. they're not mounted very solid at all.

anybody know if there is an axle truss that will allow the same link geometry as an scx-10? (i think it's called triangulated 4-link) with lower links mounting narrow at the chassis and wide at the axle. upper links mounting wide at the chassis and narrow at the axle.

Try the GPM 4 link kit as the top links mount on a bracket in the middle of the axle. By the way very nice build.

The JunFac 4 link is a better design

i came up with a 4-link geometry which *i feel* is a better geometry. it's solid as a rock, and flexes great. no axle twist, and no shift from side to side. i mimicked the geometry of scx-10's 4-links. even used a scx-10 4-link truss

i started by completely removing the links i had previously. blank canvas. then it hit me. "hey try that spare 4-link axial truss.. see if you can rig it to work!"

so i tried it!

it worked.. with some "rigging." so any of you who have scx-10 4-link trusses, IT CAN BE DONE. but i wasn't sure it would be solid enough. i didn't want to go from a suspension with slop to another sloppy setup. so i thought to myself "hey self, why dont you try that spare RJ2 metal 4-link truss. it will probably not have slop!"

so i tried it!

its nice and SOLID. i did have to drill another hole in my aluminum shock mounts to have 4 screws bolting the truss down. So with the truss lookin golden i started on the links. my goal, like i said, was to mimick scx-10 link geometry. i believe it's called a "triangulated 4-link."

so i tried it!
and................BAM!

(ignore that 3rd screw in the top of the truss. i was trying a 3-link setup for a minute but decided agains it, then forgot to take the center ball-end off haha.)

it's flex is perfect for what i'm building. it's not outrageously too much flex with the shocks bolted on, so it does look realistic, but the articulation it does have flexes freely and smoothly. ohhh yeah!

now i'm ready for moab tomorrow

The GPM four link kit has the same idea as that axial one for the truss but takes less space and is alloy.

Yeah I saw gpm's kit. Wasn't a fan of the angle of the upper links. I like the uppers to be mounted wider than the lowers at the chassis. Plus I made none for free

UPDATE*

when i ordered my MTR's from sdi4x4.com i also ordered their rubber fender flares. i knew they would be too big and would take some "cutting and shutting" to get them to fit the fj-cruiser's wheel wells, but they weren't too pricey. i wanna say like $15?

was kinda going for this look:

so here's how big they were (top)
and how much i had to cut out of them to get them to fit in the wheel wells(bottom)

here's some glue. just used super glue.

fronts and rears cut to fit

these glue to the inside of the body so i roughed the inside up with a my blade to give the glue some plastic to stick to.. instead of just paint.

glued on!

also added a spare. i like it cuz it covers up the rear body posts/mouting holes!

*need to touch up the paint on that rear bumper, it keeps getting scratched dropping off ledges. anybody wanna make me some metal bumbers/sliders??

i also added some weight to the front brick, and to all the wheels. (3oz up front, 2oz rears)

did some much needed upgrades this week in anticipation for a Class 1 comp yesterday. it was a blast! but before the pics from the comp, the pics from the build!

TIME TO LOSE THE BRICK!
before

cut off

cleaned up

using part of the brick for a skid plate

I also needed a chassis mounted bumper (the other one was mounted to the body, and although i loved how it looked, it was starting to crack and look kinda beat up)

love the new clearance up front!

also got my broken winch to "work" as well. the motor is burned out, but i hooked up a servo winch in the chassis, and spooled up the cable around the 3-racing winch. so although the 3-racing winch doesn't do the actual pulling, it looks like it does.

threw in an 80t motor.. but i think it was defective cuz it had zero torque.. anybody use 75t or 80t's in their cc-01s?

did a bit of chopping on the bottom of the chassis as well, because i didn't like how the links/rod-ends would get hung up on any sharp ledge/obstacle you climb with a cc-01

came up with this
2 birds with one stone. protect your driveshaft, and mount the lower links!

here's a couple pics of it at the comp!
it was the only cc-01 at this particular comp. it was kinda its' public debut haha. everyone loved it. it got lots of attention, even with the two TF2's there haha!

this is my favorite pic of the FJ yet!

hope ya'll enjoy!!
