Hey guys. Just checking to see if the CC01 can use pretty much any Tamiya cvd/uni axle, or if there's something special about them. I know they use a different size inner knuckle bearing, but I was thinking about swapping out the knuckles for something I've got more of lying around. I did a quick test fit once, using dogbones and M chassis knuckles and it seemed to work, from outdrive to knuckle anyway. Any thoughts? Last edited by monkeyracing; 03-17-2014 at 09:30 PM. |

Alrighty, how about the outdrive to u-joint section? Is that a common length between something like a TL01 and a CC? I'm pretty sure the dogbones are the same, but unis might be different.

If you're up to the challenge of searching for the parts, there are part numbers here for MIP CVDs that'll work. It may take some time finding them, but they are a lot beefier than any of the Chinese stuff. CC-01: Hop Ups and other goodies |

That is pretty damned interesting. I do like a challenge, especially for obscure parts. Thanks very much.

So, what's the consensus? Which Cvd's work best? Cheers, Pedro |

I got busy and had to shelve scouring the world for odd parts. Just went ahead and order some GPM universals from RCMart. (bottom pic) What I'm wondering, is which style they'll be. There's an open style uni and a closed style. Both are listed on various websites. RCMart might be using a generic pic? ![]() ![]() |

See, that's weird. Two people ordered the same Yeah Racing unis and just as with the GPMs, two different pics. Hmm.

Had the GPM CVD's so far and hated the fact that their joint is not alligned with the center of rotation of the knuckle - so the CVD's are hitting the C-hubs when stearing. Following a suggestion from another forum, I just ordered Tamiya 53501 and 53522, which should be a much better fit |

Good parts no doubt, but more than double the cost. Even in my race vehicles, I'll generally go with aftermarket vs Tamiya, based on expense. There are some places I insist on Tamiya parts, however. I've never thought about center of rotation before, so you may have a good point. EDIT: I got the new axles installed. Something I suspected when i was having a look at them turned out to be true: They don't allow more steering angle than the stock dogbones did. I trimmed out the knuckles and the C hubs while I had the truck apart. Without the axles installed, I got loads of steering. Once they were in place, steering was back to where it was before, without the knuckles or hubs clearanced.. There's nothing binding up any of the linkage or moving parts in the suspension or steering gear. The universals bind up somewhere shy of 40 degrees. I suppose this could be a result of what aircooled mentioned - that the pivot on the unis is not aligned with the pivot in the knuckle. In any case, they're in and will stay in until they wear out or break. Just like everything else in the truck. Last edited by monkeyracing; 05-29-2014 at 10:31 PM. |

My order of Tamiya 53501 and 53522 finally arrived and as expected, this will definately make a huge difference in possible steering angle and will stop the binding with the C hubs On the top the Tamiya CVDs, at the bottom the GPM CVDs ![]() |

those tamiya shafts fit alright? I looked up the part nunbers and those shafts fit f-201? I'm needing a set of front shafts for mine anyhow. I spit one out and bent it all to hell. I like the cdv style. Let me know how that setup fit in yours Aircooled.

| ![]() Didn't take it out for a ride yet, but mechanically it's a perfect fit. And friends from an other forum use them in their CCs running 3S setups without any issues

Aircooled, did you use the 53501 shafts on the 53522 outdrives? Or just the 53522 set? <<<< Tapatalk HD>>>> |
