I do have the tranny parts at home now but right now no time to look into the chassis. I am very thankful to all of your input.

From a manufacturing point of view the "blank" skid plate is a very tempting suggestion. But may not be the ideal solution for everyone.

Tomi
6 vs 8? I don't think so. When you use thinner delrin you're not just lowering the tranny but also lowering the window threshold. So the gap under the motor wouldn't decrease. Basically the mounting surface for the tranny has to be approx 4mm to 5mm lower than the window threshold. IE, your pocket milling is perfect, but you need to recess the tranny pads too. I can do that because I have a mini mill. But people without a mill would have difficulty in removing the necessary skid material.

You definately don't want to mount the motor/tranny on the surface of a flat-top skid if you care about CG. Tomi, when you're ready to procede, pocket mill the entire interior down 4mm. Then attempt to place your tranny and you'll see a couple more areas need to be milled down to fit the #3 bolt and also that corner down-bump. It's easy when you see it, but harder to explain with text.

Once the tranny fits where you want it you can continue to pocket mill the rest of the skid floor further if you wish. You milled mine nice and deep for light weight. But that was with 8mm skid material. 6mm probably won't take any more milling. Either should work fine.

If you want to keep moving forward, but don't have time to work on it, send me a blank 6mm with the rod-end pockets and side-holes installed. My machinist buddy and I will rework it to fit both tranny positions and I'll send you dimensions, sketches, photos and the actual skid if you need it. My thinking is this could be a generic skid undrilled, or you could drill per request for either tranny position. Lastly you could drill all 6 holes and just not use 3. I don't think three unused countersunk holes would hurt anything performance wise.

If I were the customer given all those choices, I'd pick the 6-hole.

Here's what we're talking about. The cross hatched area needs to be recessed 4mm. the small double crosshatched area needs 5mm. The three holes to mount the tranny are at the + marks.

This for a full tranny flip.

Thanks again for all input and advice. I'll look into it as soon as time allows.

Got my prototype running. Wasn't planning on doing a build thread, but I'll summarize it with this post. Note this is not quite Tomi's planned production design. This is a SuDu/Losi adaption Tomi built for me to my specifications. It's a bit lower profile, uses shorter shocks, requires lowering the motor/tranny unit to the max and requires centered driveshafts. Tomi, you did a fine job, thanks for working with me.

Parts List:
DIY XR steering
SCX shocks, MRC/silver springs
Tekin ROC 3100kv, full sensored, & LNC trans
MMP 1-cell, CC bec, Hitec 7950
LCC rear driveshaft, DIY Stampede-based front
VP Pro-Comp/SLW wheels with Boss Claws and CI foams

Not quite finished but running/comping. As it sits: 4.5 lbs, 60/40.
To do list: Link upgrade, steering, D-weights.

RTR, Beater body and nice body

Just wondering are there any updates on this chassis as I'm pretty keen to get my hands on one...

Tomi's taking some time off over the summer. If you don't want to wait, I took some measurements and think an AX Sudu kit could be converted to Losi if you're handy with that sort of thing.
