Default Testing Interest: Made to order wheels

I'm kicking around the idea of offering made to order, custom offset/width 1.9 & 2.2 delrin wheels. They will not include rings or hubs...just a set of wheels built to your specs. They will be drilled to accept easily sourced VP/Shifts/etc slw bolt pattern and Axial compatible beadlock rings (holes drilled and tapped to your specs).

Actual designs will vary, but kept simple to keep the prices low. Widths could range from 1/2" to 3", and any offset you want within the width of the wheel.

A sample (shown with MThead beadlock ring):

I have a price range in mind, but would like to hear everyones thoughts on the matter...

I'm interested in any blems you might end up with.

The cost of rims has gone down but they're still out of my price range.

*I'd really like a 1" 1.9 that will handle abuse. Planning on runing a 8.5t on 3s.

I'm aiming for the "base" models to be more affordable than the complete wheel sets currently available...something you can get into somewhat inexpensively if you already have hubs or rings. They will be somewhat simple, but still be a solid wheel that looks good.

It would also be ideal for those doing custom builds that need a narrower or wider wheel than they would usually find.

Obviously I could do more complex designs, but at a greater cost.

Since they are made to order, the hub area could be thickened up if you want more strength and wouldn't cost any more.

At this time I could do something close, but not very exact. To me, it would be more of an "inspired by" wheel more than a scale representation.

I'm interested for sure. Deep dish 1.9 that looks like a steel d-window with slw compatibility.

Could I get a wheel that glues on the hub side but has a beadlock face? I think it would help with foam tuning and this way we could get more room for maximum knuckle weights.

Keep in mind that I do not have a cnc machine...everything I do is done manually. A d-window wheel would be very time consuming, and not cheap. They could be made though...

I'd have to get the tooling, but it can be done.

Lighter than aluminum, but making a thick and chunky wheel to bring the weight back up is totally possible.

Ok. Axial 8hole replica with slw compatibility. And since they would be delrin, you could put in some brass threaded inserts.

Yup, and can do either dished or flat face. Inserts should be no problem.

It would be very difficult.

The simplest and least expensive would be round holes. A bit more difficult and a bit more expensive would be straight spokes. Anything more complex than that and the price (and machine time) would start to skyrocket. I wish it weren't that way, but at this point in time it is.

If there is time this weekend, I'll get some wheels drawn up to give you guys an idea of what can be done inexpensively. I'm not saying that I am against doing anything else, I just want to try to get everyone on the same page concerning my goals with these wheels, which is to offer simple, affordable, basic beadlocks made in widths and offsets you specify. Going beyond that is possible if you want to go there and I have the capability.

I really like the idea of these wheels. Make them compatible with axial rings and I'll take a set.

Very interesting. Subscribed to see where this process ends up. My first thoughts are "custom" and "width." I think you're on to something here.
