| Fastenal has acetal!
I was flipping through thier catalog the other day and found that they carry acetal rod and sheets! Doesn't come up online though... Gotta go there tomorrow for some hardware, so I'll confirm whether or not they do actually have it. Wish me luck. |

Good luck...I called my local Fastenal a week or so ago and they didn't even know what acetal or delrin was, never even heard of it. They "punched it in the computer" and didn't find anything. Guess I'll have to look through the catalog and order it. |

| That's about what McMaster sells it for. I can't remember exactly what I paid for 5' of 1/4" tube and 10' of 5/16" rod, but it was in the buck a foot ball park.

When I go to Fastenal I never pay the listed price. Just ask for the discounted price. They are flexible with most items. Last week I paid 25 cents for a 75 cent bolt.

Hey guys, I went to my local fastenal store yesterday and got schooled on the difference between delrin rod and actual acetal rod. First off acetal is not in stock and is a order as needed with a minium order from their supplier. Acetol is stonger and slicker than delrin. The salesman said that neither would be stocked due to economic reasons, The guy spent about 40 minutes researching and getting the 411. Anyway I ordered a buttload of delrin rod and sheets and must say that the price was good, also found some stainless steel rods and tubes and spent 97.25 before I could get out of the store. Excellent place to get your nuts, bolts and washers. Found the correct metric drill bits for the 3mm stuff. Thanks |

I know it's been talked about in a different thread, but do you have a plastic supplier in your area? I go to Colorado Plastics in Boulder. I'm sure many other plastics stores are like them, and have a discard pile inside that they will sell you from cheap. I recently picked up 8 pieces of 1" X 4" X 4" black Delrin for just over $40. They also have a box in the back of their store where they throw the smaller pieces into, and the public is welcome to take what they want. I've scored pieces close to 12" X 12" X .25" for free.
