The holes are for looks.

The removable piece is probably just what you think it is, though once installed it stays put.

I love this program and there are a lot of add ons you can download for free to. We used it in school a lot when building our shop and property layouts down to every detail.

FYI: instead of doing screenshots, you can export your drawings into 2d jpegs onto your desktop.
