I ordered one of these from the US west warehouse today. Now to find tips, these look popular and cheap: http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-Solder...oAAOSwxH1UINSg Edited 2/1 - I received my soldering station a couple weeks back. It works much better than my big handheld Weller. Last edited by BroncoAZ; 02-01-2016 at 09:29 AM. |

Ordered from the Arkansas warehouse. For under 30 bucks to my door, I'm in. I should stay off of that site... |

I bought one it lasted about 6 months then the iron came apart looks like the plastic just got to hot and stretched. So I bought a trakpower 950 wow what a difference. Just spend the extra and get a quality station. It makes soldering Rx8 a breeze.

Bought one just like this 5 yrs ago from harbor freight, all the tips and nipples from hakko fit right on and work well, that said I don't think it works as well as it did new and I'm back to my weller 60 watt for some things, glad I'm not trying to assemble batteries any more!

For the price the zeny looks great. Maybe they hold together well over time? At that price it would be hard to complain about a year of service. But... I would recommend the brand that Zeny copies, Aoyue. Aoyue has fantastic pricing for the quality and widespread parts availability. We use one at the shop for production alongside a few Hakko's. Twice the price as the one you linked, but still very affordable IMO. http://www.amazon.com/Aoyue-937-Digi.../dp/B000I30QBW

I ordered the Zeny. I need a decent soldering iron, my Radio Shack ones are pushing 40 years old and parts no longer available from RS. It is non-heat controlled and gets way too hot when idling, waiting for use. I am not ready to believe that all these units are copies of another model, but actually the same model with different graphics on the front. I am on ALiExpress where they list these and offer custom graphics and drop shipping. I know guys like you will order "standard" items and then rework them for better quality, but most of these vendors aren't as good as you. Interesting, they are shipping an extra heating element that is sourced from Japan. Quote:
After searching around, it also appears the yips and heating elements are fairly generic and easily available. The vendor for the Zeny is in California, and the shipping is free and short. For the amount of soldering I do. this unit should last past any payback from getting a higher grade unit. I do appreciate the input. I will review the unit after using it, and follow up if any problems. Oddly, I've had some good luck with much of the China made stuff. Except drill bits and taps. They seem to be pretty poorly done. Not surprised, as a set of bits or taps cost less than a single well made one. So I have the cheap ones for general plastic drilling, and the good ones for serious work.
