Another option is a 20pin ATX to 20 Pin ATX, 4 pin P4, and Aux 6 Pin: OutletPC.com - FSP 20-pin ATX to ATX, P4 ATX, and 6-Pin AUX Power Adapter I bet if you took a stroll down the aisles at MicroCenter in Madison heights they might have a PSU or an adapter like this to make a normal newer PSU work. |

I can also suggest staying away from USB to parallel converters, I have heard nothing but trouble with them. That was my problem as well when setting up my little mill, I had to rummage through my old computers to find one with a parallel port! Very cool project you have coming together. I can't believe you got that thing into your basement! Don't move any time soon! I put a 1200lb lathe in my basement and don't know how I will get it out without yanking it through the woods with a winch. |

Thank you guys. I appreciate all the help.. Jake, I'll take your advice and see if I can make it over there this weekend. If I can't seem to get the parts to get the old girl going, then I will just pick up a new barebones machine and go from there. John, you'd be suprised how easy it went down the stairs. Used a cart just like this and it went right down, it was still bolted to the pallet. The wesco stairking - YouTube Going back up, might not be as easy though. No plans to move and no plans to sell any time soon either. |

I have several PS's with a 2 x 10 "P1" plug. Didn't try them yet as they are all ~250watt PS's. Want me to power them up?? Last edited by Charlie-III; 10-26-2012 at 05:37 PM.

That is what I really need. 250w might be a bit small. Keep them handy, I'll let you know.

I still think you can hack & solder to the existing connector. Let me know, they're here. I have a few more to look at.

One step closer boys and girls. Still need to get the final wiring done, but I couldn't wait to power it up for the first time. 2 of the 4 Axes homed just fine, two have home switch issues. Not a big deal, just a little adjustment needed. But I may have a ground problem, got a little poke when I touched part of the base.. |

2-Yikes, find the issue. Is it "US wiring" (black & white wires) or "European wiring" (blue & brown wires)? Blue = white Brown = black I'm assuming this is 110vac?

#1 Thank you.. #2, yes it is US wiring and it is 110v AC. I am using an older extension cord that my dad made a few years ago. So, there is a possability it wasn't grounded the best. I am still going to ohm everything out and then I should be good to go. I have a non-touch detector and will be checking it over before I start it up again, for sure. If there is a ground problem, I have solutions for that as well.. |

Update time boys and girls. But first, pop quiz, how hard is it to find a computer that can run Windows XP and has an old school parallel port. Answer, harder than winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning. Thank you to biniaryterror for coming through and pulling off a hail MARY... Still having a small problem with a home axis switch that isn't working. Have narrowed it down and might have to get a new switch or a new control board. BUT, no matter we have a computer that is sending signals to and from the mill, moving the axes and we even broke in the spindle bearings tonight. Last edited by bigstu; 02-28-2013 at 09:50 PM. |

I got lucky on my machine and had a motherboard from about 2002 with a parallel port. If all else fails a pci parallel card could be used, it is better than a usb for sure. Satisfaction to get it running, yeah? Long projects are the best to finish. |
