Default TORCH/Regulator

Hey Fellers, Wondering what Regulators and torch everyone uses to do their brazing? I know that Mapp torches work, so post up what you all have.

Deciding on a outfit, wondering what "other" regulators and torches are being used and are they dependable?

Thanks,
-Gary

ive used the homdepot straight mapp tourch, the small (disposible bottle) mapp/oxygen tourch it gets expencive quick, and now im useing my full size propane/oxygen torch with a 0 brazing tip.

I liked the small disposible bottled map/oxy.... light, small, great flame, but expencive. Switched over to my fullsize because i ran out of oxy on a sunday and couldnt get a disposible bottle of oxy. quickly relized it wasnt that bad, so now i just stick with it

Edit: my fullsize stuff is harris and victor

i use a full blow oxy/acetylene set up with HD torch... but thats cause Its what I got on the welding truck. Prob runs about $750 - 900 up around here so not really practical.

On the other hand I been working on a Truggy truck and just been TIG welding everything.

the $34 one at home depot

mapp gas with the ignitor handle

has been working fine, made 3 bumpers and 2 sets of rock sliders so far.

seems like the gas is about half way gone. $9 a bottle

my only complaint is the tip / flame is huge

I use a HVAC oxy/act. torch setup. It uses a small 'MC' and 'B' tanks but they last 6 months for the amount of brazing that I do. The regulators are Victor, as is the torch head and hoses.

I use full size Victor's, just use a small brazing tip, cause that's what I got.

Thanks for the responses. I thought about a jewelers torch that sells for around 120.00. However, I still need tanks,OXY/ACE and regulators. Thought about used but never know what your gonna get. Suggestios?

due to the danger of the gases I would not buy everything used. I would buy new regulators or like new used and then everything else i would pick up used. A used regulator can blow up if its been abused a shoot out the adjustment knob like a hunting rifle, I always stand off to the side when opening the bottles up. Its a habit now.

I also know that you can send out used equipment to get refurbished they will replace cracked seals and such. if you get score a cheap used set you can also do this if you have a place close by but the last torch barrel i sent out took 3 months to get back.

Seems that harris and victor are the most common on regulators. I'm sure there are people using "Other" type of regulators. I would love to fine a good used outfit somewhere. I tried Craigslist, but the pricing is too high. Might as well buy new. I need a MC style Acetylene and a Oxygen tank.

personally Ive never used any other than victor just because that is the most common set and brand around here. My local welding supply does have there own personal brand with torch and tips that are cheaper. Maybe that is something you can look into for your local area?
